Do you honestly think VW will address all those little problems the Gen 4 had that I heard so much about?
I have always loved the look of the VW's and my brother is a die hard VW guy and its rubbed off onto me...I am only skeptical about the reliability of VW.....
do you think it will improve? Does it need to improve for VW to be successful in the future?
i can't believe we have to wait another whole year for the gti to become available. it's going to be old news by the time it's finally available. by this time next year, we'll also be able to choose the 3.2l quattro a3, the bmw 1- and 2-series, the supercharged tc and cobalt, and possibly the mazdaspeed mazda3. the new mitsu eclipse and pontiac solstice will be waiting in the wings. hopefully, with all the great reviews the mk5 gti is getting, vw will push up the introduction date by a few months. with all the r32's gone, who the h*ll is going to buy a mk4 golf/gti!

"VW totally apologized to the dealers and dealer principles for what they've been subjected to (dealers support and stuff). Dr P was there himself to deliver that message personally (WOW, that's strong)."
I posted that a few days ago regarding quality and support to the dealers from VW's standpoint. VW is finaly going to do something about it. Dr P personally said he has fixed all of that crap that Piech didn't take care of, and will restore the VW quality to where it should be. The old Beetle, where it may have had a "few" quirks (as does ANY car), was dead nuts reliable. He promised to deliver the goods, and the dealers said "thank God". The inital reports from across the pond have been favorable, so we'll see. It's been quite the uproar internally within VW that quality will either break or make us. My guess isn't the "break us" mentality.
Time will ALWAYS tell, but the "zero defect" plan is in effect. We'll see with the New Jetta 05.5 when it arrives. Newest of the new usually show what they're gonna do out of the gate, and since this is the global release of that car, it hasn't been benchmarked overseas. This is do or die, in my opinion, and I am praying for VW because I don't want to switch, but if it isn't there this time, I'm onto bigger and more importantly, better products.
My two cents...
This article and apparent VW mindset is making me sooooo
