who else on the vortex has a motorcycle? (and how old are you)« »

picked her up on saturday...

the pops isn't too pleased, he thinks I should wait until i'm 24 (he follows the train of thought that you magically wake up one day and decide it's time to stop taking risks...(ie. speeding, riding the bike in the first place) , i think I should make my own decisions...

any of you guys have a bike? if so, how old were you when you got it? any accidents? was the pops (if applicable) happy? post some pics of your bike!!!

how much do you pay for insurance? plz include relevant information (how old u r, how long u had your moto license for, your own insurance or parents, what bike it is)

everyone seems to have this notion that bike insurance is dirt cheap, but i got a feeling it's not gonna be...

from what ive heard from a couple friends, here in new jersey, you cant get a bike license if you have a certain amount of points on the license. the insurance however is cheap cause most people only insure for 6 month periods

sport rider from last month (or maybe the month before) says in cali an 18 y/o with a speeding ticket and a R1 would pay like 4K for a policy....

also, i found this link in my travels...

http://www.ctnow.com/news/loca...story

seems to me everyone thinks you're getting the rates for the 40 yr old guy on a harley. but $4,183 is a yearly policy for the same bike (granted it's 10 years older) with similar credentials (the example gives 18 y/o, i'm 20)

if 2 grand is for a 6 month policy, then 15% of that is 300 upfront, then monthly payments of $340 for the next 5 months for insurance?!?!? damn, it's no wonder there aren't a lot of young riders....

26, full coverage, State Farm, 04 GSXR 750. $500 a year. I was paying $1,200 on my 02 R6 with rip off Progressive. State Farm is much better but harder to get.

I was 22, now Im 24. I bought a 2003 R6 brand new for my first bike. No accidents, Pops couldnt say much cuz I paid for it. No tickets and Liabality coverage is like $300 a year with Allstate. Progressive would only do full coverage with passenger for $1500 a year.

Bought this new back in July, and have put a little over 3,200 miles on it the past few months.

Any new/young riders thinking of starting out on fast (i.e., rocket ships on 2 wheels).......don't. It's like anything else...you aren't gonna learn how to drive with a 700WHP Viper, so why would you learn on something with two wheels that has a fairly similar power/weight ratio and can kill you much more easily?

Re: who else on the vortex has a motorcycle? (camarolover) »« »

Been riding about 9 years now, if you go with Rider Insurance, the rates drop once you're over 25. I'm paying $140 for a full year, liability coverage.

Currently I'm riding a modded, mean, green ZX6, I'll probably sell it next season.

Before I bought my first bike, I was already married, so at first, my wife was not too happy about the thought of me and a bike but once I took a driving course she was all cool about it.

When my parents found out I had a bike (about a half year later) my Mom was pissed but not as pissed as when I got my first tat!

BTW, since this was not said yet in this post..................there are two types of bikes out there, the one that you already dropped or the one that you will drop................keep that in mind and invest in good riding gear!
