I've seen 337 vin #s from 048271 to 056008. I guess this means that over 7737 vin #s given in Brazil 1500 were for 337's. That's as far as I've got. Does anyone know which exact #s were 337's?

OK, so the vin #s span a long way. How do we know which are 337's? How do you know that yours is #497? And we really do need a gtg in the spring.

PS. You are right about the highest #. I misread my notes.

Sorry, but I still don't see a clear link (even on the registry site) between vin and 337 production #. Surely someone has a grid directly linking the two. Does only vw have this info or does someone else?

I spoke to VW about this a couple years ago, and not even they could tell which 337 was which; they even said themselves, they never kept track during production.

 Re: (TheGreasyJap) »« »

Hey guy's I'm the webdeveloper for the 337 Registery and a 337 owner. First off the Production number you see are not our production numbers. They are a mathimatical equation that gives us a best guess at what our Production number MIGHT be. I figured that if we knew what the First 337's VIN was and the Last we subtract the 2 and do a differential equation to get what our number of that number knowing only 1750 cars could come from that difference. This leads to duplicate Production #'s, unfortunetly. Ya it's confusing it's also not accurate since the equation can't take in to account that most likely cars where built in blocks. IE 2 337 where built then 20 GTi's then 5 337's then 30 GTi's.. Unfortunetly the build process appears to be pretty random.

I've also called VW and was told that there is no database they can reference to find wich cars are 337's, let alone can they find what the 337 production numbers is. As far a I can tell unless all 337's get registered some place, we'll never know exactly what our production numbers are. That was my goal with the registry.

Let me know if I can help out with any other questions.

Why would you want to know what your production # is anyway? If the 20th came out, but they didnt put a # on them, would you still want to know? I think you are trying to refernce the 337 to a 20th. In this case if you want a production # go get a 20th. We know that the 337 was only sold in a small amount of units to the US. Some have crashed and are now out of the loop. I wouldn't worry about what # it is. Just be happy you have one of the more rarer VW's in the US, or just be happy you drive a VW... I do.

Because I love my car. If you don't care that's your prerogative. There are 300 some owners that do want to know and have registered and several users a day that are curious or update their info daily. I've been looking for our production numbers since I got my car which was a full year before they announced the 20th. The registry has been up a full 6 months before the first 20th hit the streets with it's production number badge on it.

I want to know my production number for the same reason 16V owners what to know theirs, for the same reason, SLC Corrado owners want to know theirs, the same reason R32 Owners want to know theirs. [sarcasm] It's a pride in ownership thing, something perhaps you know nothing about since you own a "25th" instead of a 337. Glad you got that German only edition in the US.[/sarcasm]

And I am happy I own my rare VW, not finding my production number will never change that.

I was under the impression that all 337s were manufactured in Germany? I guess this was incorrect? Is there any way to dertermine by the VIN that the vehicle is in fact a 337?

 Re: ((RDC)eddie) »« »

Thanks for registering.

No all 337's as well as all 1.8T GTI's (as well as all 20th) where all built in Brazil. On top of getting the cool dash plaque VW also created a one off VIN for the 20th so there are 2 ways you know you have a 20th. Where as with the 337, you cannot tell by VIN alone that you have one. What we do know so far is that all 337 VIN's reside between 048271 and 076172, and that MOST VINs from 073698 to 076172 are all canadian (although there are several from Washington state mixed in there).

However if you find a silver car that someone has taken the time to make look like a 337 or a 337 that someone has taken the time to make NOT look like a 337, look for the stickers in the trunk. If you see the (interior) option LA7W the car infact is/was a 337.

The stickers look like this:

Good luck on your purchase.

And just to start some friendly rivalry, the 337 is superior on-track to the 25ths due to the extra weight it carries

The 337 registry (right now) resides at:
http://www.418design.com/4gawpdb/337/337.asp

SWAGG, 0106 "PROBABLY" ment to say 20th. Although the 337 and 20th on paper have the same specs as far as weight goes because the 20th come equipt with a sunroof it SHOULD weigh more than the 337. However they could have found a way to strip more weight out of the 20th (however unlikely). I do believe when you get down to a difference of a couple hundred pounds however, it will come down more to driver skill than car.

If I remember correctly the German 25th could come equipt with a sunroof as well but i doubt that's what 0106 ment. Remember guys our 337's and 20ths where modeled after the 25th, they are not the same car. Infact the 20th has more in common with the German 25th than the 337 does, unfortunetly.

And cuz it comes up.. I'm a girl. Thank you guys/gals for keeping the registry alive!!

there is no way to find out the real production number of 337's and honestly who cares, it means nothing.
Even on the 20thAE's they mean nothing, they are just randomly numbered, meaning the 5th 20thAE made doesn't necessarily have the number "0005" on the cup holder.

 Re: ((RDC)eddie) »« »

The 25th was announced in Germany Late 2001, when the American market saw what was planned we begged and pleaded for it to be sent to the US. Since it would be odd to celebrate a 19th anniversary (we got the GTi 6 years after it was developed), it was imported as the 337, a code name used for the original GTi (EA337). In a rush to get it to the North American market in time, several options where left off or changed to make sure VW would make delivery in the April - June time frame it promised. In Germany the 25th comes in 3 colors (Red, Silver and Black), It comes with the black headliner, blacked out headlights and all the aluminum trim pieces that the NA 20th comes with and (if I'm not mistaken) you could also order the German 25th with a sunroof. The 337 is essentially a 25th on a rushed budget/schedule. There are no "337's" in Germany however you will see 25th "built to North American specs" just as you will see 337's "built to German specs". The 25th is rare, I don't however know what number they where released in, however I do believe the 337 was built in a smaller number. The 337 can only be found in North America, US (1500 units) and Canada (250 units).

Someone "could" have imported a 25th, though I've not heard of one. I know there is atleast one 337 overseas (Military transfered and took his 337 with).

Not to get in another pissing contest, but as it stands right now Grogthefrog is correct. There is currently no way to find production numbers for the 337, as VW refuses to help. As well he is correct about the randomness of 20th "production number". My site was created as a place 337 owners could come, in the hopes that one day we would know the answer to that question, however that will take cooperation from all owners. Which is apparent from the flak this topic has already received, that it won't happen. I will continue on my quest, because I love my car and I truly want to know. I encourage anyone who shares the same ideas to help out, if for no other reason than the challenge of it. hehe and to prove the nay sayers wrong.

Thanks again for everyone that helps out.

 Re: (IMurSTAR) »« »

Hey, I've read you defending our 337's through the couple years. I'm registered, and really had no idea what sort of # I had until I saw your site. I got one of the early ones, made in 3-02. Your site is helpful, but I haven't been able to modify my settings, since my 337's not stock anymore. But I got the firewall, no cookies..

Keep up the good work IMURSTAR. People always like to mess with us 337 owners, since we have a rare car and us saying that upsets some people. 1500 in the US, or 1750 on the entire western hemisphere is not common. It is more rare than the 20th, or R32, GLI. I believe it is the "most rare" of all the Mk4's in the US. I also believe it is the lightest (any lighter model/trim than 2857 lbs?).

I am hoping one day we'll know our #. If not, I guess it really only means something to mr 337..that person would be so cool!!! I tell people 337 stands for how much torque I want out of it, but that would be so great to say "it's because it's #337 of 1500". That would rock!

Thanks man it's peeps like you that make this whole process fun.

As for your cookie issue. If you go to the main page and click "Register my 337", you will get the familiar submit screen. Enter your VIN, BUT NOTHING ELSE. The application will find your VIN and allow you to update your 337. I've added a registration help page for these kinds of questions so if you guys have any more just post them up.

Thanks again guys!!

There "should" be several stickers in your trunk.

One with the Audi/VW (at the top of the image) is found on the underside of the hatch lid. This one lists the TIPO (0416) named as something else.

We're not sure if the middle 2 stickers list anything of importance but they are both located on the underside of the tire cover.

Then the sticker I showed before is located on the left hand side of the spare tire well. It also shows the TIPO number.

There are other random stickers with just the TIPO number and initials located all over the car. I found mine on the underside of the front lip and passenger side skirt, behind the gauge cluster, in the center drivers side air vent, in the engine bay.

Image of the stickers in the trunk:
