Just bought a Porsche 993 Cab...may need to sell the R32 | « » 6:01 PM 2-16-2005 | |
|
I just bought a red/tan 39k mile '96 Porsche 993 Cabriolet yesterday with $15k in upgrades (HRE wheels, 993 Twin Turbo suspension and sway bars, H&R springs, Bilsteins, 993 Twin Turbo front bumper, Aerokit side skirts, motorsound, and a killer JL Audio upgraded stereo system), so I "might" be listing my 2500 mile silver R32 in the next week or so on the Classifieds here, and possibly on Autotrader.I'd love to keep the car, but I have way too many cars now. The R32 is a tremendous car, and a hell of a lot of car for what it costs. I've had a number of Porsches and other high performance cars over the years, and for the $$$, the R is hard to beat. BTW, this is a great discussion board, and one that I've found to be highly informative and entertaining. My 16 year old son wanted me to buy an Evo or STi when I initially bought my R, and he (and I ) both now know that I made the right decision. Mike viperbrad@comcast.net PS...If I can figure out how to post a pic of two of the new 911, I'll do it. Maybe I should let my 16 year old do it, as his old man is a computer illiterate idiot...

Man, that didn't last long.... http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1680949 I thought I remembered your R & NSX pics! Why don't you host the pics like you did on that thread? It sounds like the new ride is sweet - do post some pics. Is this #96? http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1685003

Well done! I'm a P-Car guy myself, and an R32 does not compare in any way to a 993 even if it is a cab. Get rid of the R32, you won't miss it!

This is why i avoid the rennlist... it will just further degrade my ability to stay strong and not cave into peer pressure. I've stayed clean for more than one year not looking for that perfect porsche and wasted money on PDIs... i can't look.

Thats how we do it in Nashvegas baby. I was just talking to one of my customers today about the beauty of the 993. The rear quarters are so voluptuous. Lookin good.

The wheels are 18" HRE 545's. Polished lip with brushed centers. The seller told me they cost him $5000 for the set, including the tires. I looked at a buying a set of HRE's for my NSX, but didn't want to spend that kind of $$$. Glad they are on the car...they look sweet (as my 16 year old calls them).By the way, I've had several of you send me instant messages. I really am a computer idiot (had to have my 16 year old son post the pictures for me). Please e-mail me at viperbrad@comcast.net if you have any questions about my R32 I may be selling. I have no idea how to respond to the instant messages, nor how to retrieve them now. I live in Nashville, and would be glad to let anyone come by to look at and drive my car.

Man that's hot. I think that is the best looking body style. The new 997 is hot, a lot better looking than the 996. But then again the GT2 and GT3 are awesome. I like them all.

I had a brand new 1990 Porsche Carerra and was not happy at all with the "shoddy" quality control and the many repairs that were needed, including a cracked flywheel at 32,000 miles which destroyed my clutch and was a problem with most '90, '91, and some '92's. An issue that the company dealt with on a case by case basis and did not wish to fully address.Hopefully, your '96 is just past what I call the Boxster "hump" when that particular car breathed new life and quality into the company. Nice looking car man . . . just make sure you have a mechanic check it out first. Always worth the peace of mind.

The '90 model 911 you had (the 964 designation) had a large number of problems, especially with their dual mass flywheel. The 993 model, which was built from 1995 to 1998, is the last of the air cooled 911's, before they went to water cooled in 1999. Right now, the 993's have basically bottomed out in pricing, as most Porsche purists don't necessarily like the newer cars as much, and the 993's are pretty much bulletproof. In fact, some 993's are bringing more than a comparable mileage and condition 1999 or 2000 model 911. My independent Porsche mechanic for many years also serviced this car I bought, and has know it for 5 years, so I didn't need to have it checked out.

I work @ a Porsche dealer, that is a really nice 993 cab. My personal favorite in the 993 segmant other than the Turbo is a C2S!!! Very strong resale values, highly seeked umong Porsche collectors. Nice choice, good luck selling your R32.

great looking car mike. I always lean towards the hard tops or the carerra's but it looks really nice, 993 in guards red is the only way to fly. being that you know own what a i would consider a most resonable "holy trinity of sports cars" (R/NSX/993). I would just pull them all out in the drive way, sit down with a case of beer and stare at them with excess.

Here's a few pictures I took today of a few of my cars.I bought the '65 Corvette 3 weeks ago from Alan Jackson, the country music singer. Since I recently bought it, and the 993 Cab, that's why I'm selling my R32.

Hey, get rid of that silly Miata before the .:R32 goes. There should be no question for a VW enthusiast on that one. On a side note, quite the nice mix of cars. I like the '65 Vette. My dad had one just like it only silver.

I am going to sell the Miata as well.It has been upgraded with OZ Superleggera wheels and Yokohama tires, Koni adjustable shocks, Racing Beat springs, Brainstorm stainless steel rollbar, Mitat "R" ground effects, etc. I'll probably only want @ $7k for it.

The NSX is not for sale...I've owned it since 1996 when I bought it from the original owner (it had 14,000 miles on it at the time and only 26,700 now). It's never been in the rain ever, and I'm planning on giving it to my 16 year old son someday (maybe when he's 40...if he's lucky and acts nice to me, and puts me in a nice nursing home )

You said a few of your cars, so how many do you have? From what i have seen, you have a beautiful collection. I have to agree about giving away the Miata, but what about giving your son the .:R? I am sure that he wouldn't turn it down, and you could still drive it if and when you wanted to. Besides, he wouldn't be the youngest one to own an .:R. Just a thought.

When he's 40, gas will cost $15 per gallon - you'll be lucky if he puts you in the trunk!
Beautiful collection!

To answer a few questions:I hate to say it, but I have 8 cars right now...so, the Miata and the R need to go. As far as gas being $15/gallon someday, and my son putting me in the trunk, I'd probably be better there than in some of the nursing homes I've heard of...
