 Info on this one« »

Noticed a different VW the other day down from my place a VW Derby, it looks fairly new, style wise and it had MEXICO plates. Tried Google but not much on a new on. Just wondering what it's story is

the polo it's a whole different car from the derby, the derby has been in mexico for 9 years, and VW still sell derbys in 2005 as well as polos

Ok dude... So this:

is not this facelifted?:

VW Mexico changes the names of the cars... VW Gol is VW Pointer, VW Polo Classic is VW Derby. But it's still the same old platform and car.

They just stole the SEAT Ibiza front end and changed small things on the back.

Nope... since 2002... we don't have this facelifted one, when the Polo Sedan was released they stopped selling... Now just Argentina and Mexico get it....

It was a reasonably good car... very cheap, with many options, comfortable, reliable engine (ABA 1.8 8v IIRC)....

BTW it has not yet mentioned that this car has not too much in common with the actual Polo as it is based on the 1st generation Seat Cordoba (basically only a badge job) which is the sedan version of the Seat Ibiza which is based on the same platform as the Polo...

Volkswagen did some other seriously strange things with the Polo/Caddy lineup in the late 90s.

VW Polo Variant (rebadged Seat Cordoba)

VW Caddy (rebadged Seat Inca)

VW Caddy PickUp (rebadged Skoda Felicia PickUp)
