 As a 1996 Volkswagen magazine ad said, “Can’t decide on a color? Try a Harlequin Golf.” Even those who are savvy to the model’s colorful background do a quadruple-take when they catch a glimpse of Mike Thomas’ surprisingly sinister preschool-hued Mk3 Golf. Mike didn't set out to own one of the most festive cars in VW history, it just happened. He was growing bored with his Alpine White 1991 GTI 8v when he spotted the VR6-swapped Harlequin for sale in the winter of 2002. He was initially hesitant to consider the car because of its color scheme, but the possibility of owning such a unique vehicle began to appeal to him. From his viewpoint as an artist, the car made the perfect eye-catching backdrop for more modifications... Full Story...

Was that "Chagall Blue" ever a stock color for N.A.? I can't recall ever seeing it other than on a Harlequin...  Looks nice!

I don't usually like the harlequins but this one passes the test Love the borbets... and the steering wheel is a nice touch. Good job

Don't know. Can't say there's anything about a Harlequin that does much for me. Still, it's a sweet ride. ..I can't imagine driving one of those around town, though.

The 'base' color of the Harlequin is that shared by the roof, rear corners and side 'skirts', so in this case blue. Check out Ross's Harlequin Page for more info. 
All those red wires don't flow with the car - they all need to be different colors!

Chagall blue was never offered on regular Golfs in North America, nor was the Pistacchio green. Great car. Sure brings back memories. I'll post some pics of my old Harlequin when I get home.  I even have a pic of my 'set of four' touch up paints.

I am so glad this car went to good hands... you've made the family tree very complete and me very happy. I was afraid it was going to goto a disrespectful owner and wow was I wrong. Oh, and I so didnt put two and two together than Crazyreesie had asked me questions about it a few months ago and that this feature was being done. I am such a tardo.

hello everyone . . owner of the car here . . thanks for all the kind words. ressie did a great job with the article, very well written. thanks to brad again for putting it out there for people to see. I just brought the car home today, and out of storage for good. I have a few more goodies to go into it this week, euro rad support/rebar, rear swaybar, new toyo tires. and a few other things as well. I'm glad to see the scene has warmed up to the harlequin. hahaha and hope to see some others out there this year  -mike -p.s. - not sure if it said anywhere in the article but, all photos were taken by yours truely

Yo how does the insurance/tickets work for a Harlequin? Cuz tickets are invalid if they get the colour wrong... maybe i should get one...
