Wiesmann GT Coupé - production version (official pics)« »

Wiesmann is now ready to produce their GT Coupé, first shown as a prototype in 2003.
Mighty nice i must say, but i´ve always been a fan of Wiesmanns.

Styling pretty similar to their Roadster...

but it´s longer, wider and higher

0-100kph: 4.6sec - top speed 280 kph

Composite body over an aluminium monocoque - weighs 70kg more than the Roadster for an overall 1250kg (2755lb).

BMW 4.8l V8 - compared to the Roadster´s I6s - 367hp - 480 NM torque

Six speed manual

useful trunk - 250l

Race version - competed in last year´s 24h Nürburgring

Pricing starts at 107k € - 137537 US$ - 16% taxes included

Apparantly it's a hell of a driver's car. Very high on quality and driving feel. For building something different... that is strangely attractive...

I can't believe I have never heard of Wiesmann before. I think that may be the sexiest car I have ever seen in my entire life.

I think I am wearing the same expression on my face as when I see Heidi Klum ads for Stiefelkönig.

Basically this:

Looks like what an Austin-Healey 3000 might've looked like had they been making one in 1992. With a fastback.

It's actually not bad, much more interesting than most of the neo-supercar tripe that's out there these days.

That thing is hot!

But I have a question: is there a red light and a non-red one in the picture here? (the bottom lights opposite the exhaust) Or is it just the lighting or something?

They´re selling mainly here in Germany, but they have a few exporters, mainly in other European countries. They have already produced more than 300 Roadster since 1993.
It started out with hardtops for convertibles (they still make them), so that they were less reliant on car production before things got really going.
I doubt they will come to the US anytime soon. They don´t comply with US safety regs - i.e. no airbags.

The concept behind it seems remarkably similar to the Panoz roadster, if I do say so. Except the Panoz uses a Ford V8 which, honestly, I'd much rather have from a parts and service perspective!

Too bad they don't make the roadster anymore... just the much heavier Esperante...

And less attractive..well argueably so, anyway. I prefered the Roadster, it was like a modern take on an old, OLD Indy car.

Silly question, but how does Panoz get around putting an Airbag in their car:

No. The steering wheel looked too thin to me. But looks like I was wrong:

I saw a roadster when I was in Germany last year. I can't explain why, but it was both smaller and bigger in person. And very impressive. As for the GT Coupe? It makes me all tingly!!!

That is an airbag steering wheel. In fact it appears to be the exact same frame as the Lancer Evolution's wheel:

Just with a little extra leather covering the spokes.

The airbag is stuffed into that little black circle.

I am sure you will be bale to order it with the big headlights, like the roadster has.

A bit more about Wiesmann: They go a little further than Panoz on the parts borrowing side: Full BMW drivtrain on roadster and Coupe (moor, tranny, diff) and they also take over most of the suspension components from the e36 M3 on the roadster (dunno about the Coupe, but I assume the same)

I have seen quite a few, but my best sighting was at the track day of the Salzburgring 2 years ago.... The Sound, and the subjective speed (due to its small size) are amazing
