Yuki Komiya's Datsun 240z | « » 4:06 PM 7-31-2005 | |
|
Hope this isnt a repost

The engine is a twin turboed VH45DE, a 4.5 liter DOHC V8 found in the U.S. in the infiniti Q45. It is stated to develop 740hp but unfortunately there has been no 1/4 mile times to back it up. Here about all the info that I have found on the car: Yuki Komiya was the designer and builder of the entire dual turbo, VH-45 V8 car project, including engine upgrades, suspension, body mods and interior. He had some backup help from his 2 car business fellow workers with some of the welding and paint, but he claims that he was "the man" that did virtually all the work. He said his project took 5 years to complete. Mr. Komiya is 30 years old. His profession is "building custom cars" He and two others run a "tuning shop" in Japan called "RISING" which appears to me, from what he says, to be very active in campaigning super dooper modified, older Nissan based "drag cars" at the main tracks in Japan. He claims the following for his 450Z HP = 720 hp Torque = 100 kgm weight of car = 1080 kg estimated 1/4 mile time = aproximately 10 sec "goal drag time: 9 sec flat!!"

Titianium is a bitch to bend, supposedly its easier and somewhat lighter to weld, though I don't really see how it would be any lighter.

Much. But that would sort of take away from the mystique, at least in my eyes. The LS2/LS7 or whatever you put in there may be lighter, it may make more power, it may get better mileage, but it's still a Chevy in a Datsun/Nissan. I'm aware of the fact that the 4.5 in there has about as much in common with the car as a small block does, it just seems more fitting to drop in an Infiniti engine...

Well, plus, this is Japan, where they don't just have small blocks laying around on the sidewalks.

That is a very nice piece of work, although IMO its overpowered to the point where it would be rather pointless on the street or track, but I would love to be proved wrong (that its more than a trailer queen or solely a drag racer).
So if driving a Miata makes someone "gay", does driving an Escalade make someone "black"? Think about it. Twitter Feed Locost Build Diary

Very few places in Japan have access to mandrel bending machines. It's not nearly as easy to find one as here in the US. It is actually more cost effective for them to cut-weld piping like this, not to mention it looks pretty cool when done this cleanly!

I wanna build an Infiniti M45 that puts down that kind of power. I'm pretty sure its got that base engine to start with. It would be the ultimate Q-Ship.
