 SRT-4 + Mopar Stage 2 + Shannonville Long Course + 50 laps =« »

They were 9,000-mile KDWs (about 1500 miles of that on-track) and EBC Greenstuff pads. The good news: the Super Blue brake fluid provided a firm pedal all night. I knew the tires would be bad but I didn't expect the paint to blister right off the back of the pads!

Are you talking about Shannonville, Ontario?

Last time I was there, an SRT-4 flipped over onto its roof - without ever leaving the track. C of G is just too damn high on those things.

Yes.

Was it in the hard right-left in the second part of the Long Course? I got two wheels up near the end of the night and said to my passenger, "That's all the drama we can get out of that section".

The SRT can roll over, but dropping it more or less to the ground helps, as does removing the very long-travel stock springs.

Guess I'm not the only Ohioan in Eastern Ontario.

As soon as I get to bring the 924 up here, I'm definitely trying Shannonville out.

I would probably switch to Hawk or Porterfield brake pads, they're usually a lot better suited to track use. Looks like you had a lot of fun though!

Well, it's a combination of two things, I think:

1) It's actually a very fast car, or certainly has the potential to be. Risk of a wreck goes up the faster the car is.

2) The owners tend to be enthusiasts that actually take the cars out to the track rather than waxing them and putting in big stereos and 19's or posting 900,000 pictures of their car in the car lounge and talking about it's heritage and how great the car is while never actually taking it to the track.

Besides the two other things mentioned above, it has a lot to do with young drivers. 16-20 yr. olds getting these for there first car, or first real performance car, is quite a bit too handle, plus many like to showboat probably.

I'm 23 and I know that this is still a lot of car for me but I think I'm smart enough to drive it responsibly.

i had the same thing happen to my rears when i had ebc (everyday breaking and cracking) brakes whilst lapping at the mosport DDT. thing is, the compound was also cooked.

i have since changed up to hawk hp+ in the front, and hps in the rear. i am not quite hardcore enough yet to swap my front pads and rotors to a hawk blue or higher grade since i'm just too lazy.

i found the hawks to be much more responsive with less initial bite, but better fade resistance, and good modulation ability. excellent braking power at all times if you really want to bind down on them.

Our friend and fellow One Lap competitor Dan Corcoran rented the track as part of a party he was having. There were only nine cars which drove. For a lot of the night, it was me in the SRT, Dan in his Lingenfelter twin turbo Z06, and another fellow in a Lingenfelter twin turbo 427 small-block Z06. Needless to say, they were a little faster down the back straight - I saw 105 before braking and I bet they were doing 130. I have some video of the 427 spinning its rear wheels and walking the dog on us, if I can find time I will put it up for all the domestic guys

Did you have access to a pyrometer at all? It might be good to check out some temp data. What were the tire pressures at?

I have been playing with some detail track day setup for my FF car as well. I have had good luck with Kuhmo Ecsta MX tires, only after they wear down a bit though. I also switched to Ferodo DS2500 pads which are totally awesome. They work ok for normal driving, but have fantastic bite when they are warmed. These were the only pads where I never felt brake fade and was actually able to engage ABS at the end of a high speed straight. I also used Motul 600 brake fluid, changed from the SuperBlue. Do you have SS brake lines? So far this combo has been fantastic, and I'm still using stock sized rotors (11.0 in).

I need to get a pyrometer, it's on my "to do" list. I started at 39 cold front and they ran up to about 44.

I will probably move to MXes on wider wheels next year. I have used MXes on our 330i and on the 190E for One Lap.

This is my wife's car and wasn't intended to be our main track rat, but my main track rat (a Superformance S1) broke last August - the frame snapped at Mosport - and I am not happy with the idea of running my 993 on the track too much. I'm probably going to grab another track-specific car, but in the meantime I want to enjoy myself!

I just ordered some PowerSlots and Hawk HPSes (they don't make the HP Plus for this car, dammit) for this upcoming weekend at Nelson Ledges. Ledges is easy on brakes anyway, but after that is Mid-Ohio and that can be a little tough, and then after that is GingerMan, and that's a killer.

i'd be scared to take anything i love onto the mosport big track. i'm still wussing out until i have something that i can live with offing and/or wrecking.

the HPS's wont last long on a lapping day - they're totally adequate to run in the rear, but you may want to grab some blues for the fronts and just use them with a separate set of rotors.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I know, I'm a wuss.

Running a 993 on-track is just too dammed expensive. Everything costs twice as much, and the car has an enormous appetite for tires.

It just cost me $270 to have a new set of pads and slotted rotors two-day delivered for the Neon. The same stuff for the 993 would have cost $420. Kumho MXes for the Neon are $129 apiece; Eagle F1 GS-D3s for the 993 are $219.

Plus, if I blow the entire motor out of the Neon I can replace it for five grand; a new 3.6 aircooled engine is $22,000.

The car I really miss as far as costs go was my Superformance. The brake pads were $44 a set. Since it weighed 1450 lbs I ran an entire season on a set of Victoracers and only burned half the tires. If only it hadn't been a horrible South African piece of kit-car-esque crap.

I think one of the "why do they wreck so much" points missed here is the immense twitchiness in the stock setup.
Maybe it was only the couple I drove when new, but they surprised me in many areas...

They were MUCH quicker than I expected.
They came out of corners much better than expected.
They stopped MUCh better than I expected.
They were unbelieveably twitchy for an OE setup...Both of them!

I actually almost lost it once under hard braking from about 85.
It unloaded the rear so much the guy behind me said he thought he almost saw daylight under the rear skins...
...Right before it crossed up on me while still over 65.
Still can't believe I caught that one.

The sheer lack of quality of the body is what really killed it for me.
I loved the drivetrain, and could've worked the kinks out of the suspension myself.

Kudos for running it at the track! Not enough people really enjoy their cars.
