eradication of CA front license plate« »

Hey guys, just got this email from a friend
of mine. I don't know if any of you have
seen this yet or if it's real or not, but I
don't think it would hurt to sign it. Basically
it's a petition to get rid of the CA requirement
for a front plate. The petition states reasonably
good benefits for this movement, like a drop
in costs for creating brackets, less damage in
minor fender benders, more focus on stopping
dangerous traffic violators rather than not
having a front plate, etc. Anyway, I know
you California dubbers agree and thought
I'd share this all with you. Sign away!

I have my front plate on, but I like the idea
of not having to worry about getting ticketed
if I decide to remove it for any reason. Plus
I know about 80% of R's are front-plateless,
and about 100% of R's look sooo good that way.

LMFAO, sorry man but isnt the license plate there so that police officers have more chance of spotting who you are.

In the UK we have to have a front and rear plate and there are no two ways about it.

Good luck though, id love to get rid of my front plate but id soon be looking at a fine from the court house

Some say he owned a nicely modded MkIV R32 a few years ago and now owns a BMW M3 but might be back into another VAG soon.

This will never fly. Front plates == more speed/red-light camera tickets == more money in "hidden" taxes for governments.

yeah, I doubt it will fly either, but I signed it because I agree. Front plates are useless and my R32 looks a lot cooler without one (yes, I do not currently display a front plate).

Maybe the day will come when we don't have a corrupt government and useless laws that are only designed to generate revenue in the form of traffic tickets will be a thing of the past. Unfortunately, I see the opposite happening. Government is getting more and more intrusive and takes away more and more of our freedom every day...

oh well...

"Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning. Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom." -Ludwig von Mises

I understand what you're saying. But
at the same time, police officers will
be spotting a car from the rear, in
which case a front plate would be void.
Though this isn't true in some cases,
I still see the reasoning behind not
needing the front plate for identification.
I also agree with the red light/speeding
comment, I just don't understand why
other states don't enforce the front plate.

I confess I'm not politically/governmentally/
fees/fines savvy, and there are dozens of
reasons for this to not go through, but I
got this email, so I'm being as optimistic
as possible, as it is just a petition, and I
know there are many others that also wish
this would pass. Again, it doesn't hurt to
sign, but do so without LYFAO.
Thanks for the luck though...

It will never happen in the Nazi state of CA. Some states do not have front license plate laws, FL etc.

Regulation and enforcement = a diet for your wallet.

I don't have my plates on. I have gotten a ticket from a parking enforcement officer for that. It came out to $35. But I see a whole lot of cars out here without the front plates, especially a majority of Corvette owners.

No front license plate in CA gives every law enforcement official probable cause to stop you. I don't like being stopped unexpectedly.
