VWvortex - Guest Opinion: Top Ten Reasons Never To Marry A Car Chick« »

by: Katherine Helmetag (atomicalex)

I get it every time. “I wish my GF/wife/SO was like you!” No. You don’t. I am a car chick, and you don’t want to be attached to a car chick. You want to run. Far, far away. And I am going to tell you why it sucks to be married to me.

Full Story...

That is hilarious! And my wife has been asking me to buy her a Corrado, just as I have taken a job that requires lots of ... business trips.

I'll need a different mailing address!

I don't know any girls like you. Probably just as well. I'd hate to be shown up by a girl!

That was a fun read. Thanks!

From the story it sounds less like you shouldnt marry a car chick and more like you just shouldnt marry a b1tch of a girl. The writer, car chick or not..just seems like a jerk to me. Male or female aside

Yes it was lame.

And I for one, can admit that, no, I can't fold a map, and if she should know more than I, then I will simply ply her with questions until she tells me to shut the **** up and let her work on her car or tells me "fine! I'll do it!"

Good article, even though I don't totally agree with it all.

Hey! I married a "car chick" a month ago today! Good thing she can not only tell the difference between a G60 and an SLC at 2 blocks away, she is also a top-of-her-class lawyer! Say "Hi" to her at H20 next to our 2-tone Corrado in the show field!
Great article; good entertainment! Ignore the haters!

I am marrying my car chick.. Not as talented as you, but no the less a car chick... Has a nicer, cleaner, newer, and faster (mine is broken) car than me. Knows enough about it, and helps to make it better...

If she was like you... I would run and hide!!!!

Wow. Lighten up, eh? This article was written totally tongue-in-cheek.

If you'd read any of Kathy's many posts in these forums, you'd know how silly (and downright mean) your comments sound.

I really don't mean to come down on you too hard, but I think your comments are pretty over the line.

Third. OMG, OMG, OMG, thank you, honey! What an incredible surprise! I knew you loved me! That turbo kit you found on eBay? The one you bought and didn’t tell me about? Well, it fits my car too. And since it arrived while you were away on a business trip and I had no way of knowing whose car it was for, I already have it installed. On my car. I love you!

WERD!

What the write said in the article made her sound not only like a car chic, but someone I DEFINITELY could NOT date. I wanna date/marry a girl that has atleast SOME interest in cars. I hate it when ladies call me crazy b/c I spend most of my time and money on it.

I'm sorry, but there's a difference between having a practical and useful knowledge of how to work on cars, and having a superiority complex.

Number eleven would read " I have a really severe case of p*nis envy, and if you're dumb enough to get involved with me I'll do everything I possibly can to draw attention to myself and make you feel like less of a man".

i think the article was well-written considering the topic was "Why not to marry a car-chick"

reading that message, made me laugh and mad at the same time. The arrogance about herself being good with cars and knowing how to drive fast on twisties and stuff. i seriously don't know this girl, but just this weekend i had a 3 day clinic (promotional event) with a F1 pro-driver and he was the humblest man i've seen. never made any arrogant statements nor superiority complex.

yes, keep up the attitude. no man's going to marry you.

theres a difference between being a car chick and a car chick know it all that has bitch-like tendencies and arrogance.

Switch roles for a sec. If the guy had these qualities (constantly reminding people that he knows more about cars than others, showing up the spouse all the time, going on "car dates" with members of the opposite sex ALOT, etc..), that guy is a straight up D|CK.

Therefore, you're not only a woman who happens to know about cars, but you possess qualities that make you the female equivalent of a D|CK (insert appropriate noun here). All car chicks are not like you, face it.

And to that guy who said something like "keep up the attitude, no one is going to marry you", he's right. You're the equivalent of a guy who's head is bigger than the rest of his body, and no one would marry you.

some of you really need to chill. It was obviously written with sarcasm. I found it to be very entertaining and amusing. I would love to have a "car chick" for a girlfriend/wife.

Heh, point taken

Still, I do think those of you who are offended and think the author too arrogant are missing the humor of the article. Seems to me she's simply having a little fun with certain streotypes and trying to poke fun at those guys who still adhere to them.

Oops, looks like it's working

I'll have to admit that is an interesting read.

but to me relationships have never been about who's better at what.. they are about how you can each help one another through the rough times of your collective lives...

i don't know katherine so this is by no means a personal attack. Because it seems from what other readers are saying evidently this is just her type of humor, but sadly i do know girls (and guys of course) that ARE just as arrogant as she came off in the article. there is nothing wrong with a strong/confident woman. i date one now and i love her to death. but, when confidence turns to arrogance... you are asking for it.

don't come crying to me when your husband/boyfriend or even wife/girlfriend drops you like a bad habbit because they find someone that respects them more than you do. Reserve your dissagreements on real problems... not because someone can't fold a map correctly.

Come over and meet my husband of 15 years, the guy who introduced me to Volkswagens, the first guy I ever dated who didn't use his car as a mobile you-know-what extender.

I think it's cool that those who saw the sarcasm got it. Role reversal is a tough topic. It's idealistic to think that a relationship or marriage will be equal in everything, and those of us who have been at the game for a long time know that it's not the end of the world if one partner is better at some things and the other partner better at other things. Someone should be good at cars, and both partners should be able to laugh about it, even if it means poking fun at the "good at cars" person.

Reliability is relative. Compared to a British roadster, all Volkswagens are reliable.

you aint kiddin .. i could date a chick that is " into cars" but not one that has a mans mentality . which it seems the chick that wrote this does . i think its safe to say there are many different levels of car chicks . like there are many different levels of "car guys . you have the car guys that fab everything up for themselves ... build their own motors.. do their own paint work . then you have the guys that take their car to a professional detailer ... pay to have their turbo kit on and pay to have their body kid put on .
