 VWvortex - SEMA 2005: A Volkswagen Perspective« »

The annual SEMA Trade Show is basically a ‘Who’s Who’ for the general automotive aftermarket. The event boasts 10,000 booths for companies catering to the aftermarket, though its specific pertinence to the Volkswagen and Audi scene is not quite as specific as that number would suggest. Nevertheless, this is the show of shows, and as such it definitely maintains a VW presence, even before Volkswagen’s choice this year to officially display at this aftermarket gathering.

Are there any better pics of the Votex Passat? It's hard to see anything on that black one.

"Right now there are no plans to bring any of the twin-turbo cars to regular production. There are some bits and pieces that we may see (body kit pieces potentially) made available through the accessories department at VWoA, ."

That made me chuckle - we can't even get a a Mark V GTI, we have a minuscule selection of 4-motion vehicles and if you dare mod anything most dealers will null and void your warranty. I wonder if VW reps were there collecting vin numbers for future reference when you file a warranty claim.. VWoA has no business at a mod convention.

Did they not sell every R32 shipped over here? Give us a car that needs little modification like the R32, but for less $. I would like to see VWoA show some guts like Dodge did with the SRT-4. I am sure that this car drove the Dodge accountants crazy, you know putting a 7 year b/b warranty on a car that was born to be beaten on.

I think VWoA really missed their chance with the tuner market when they released the 337 and 20th Anniversary with the same HP ratings as the normal GTI. Would it really have hurt them that much to throw in a VR6 clutch and get the HP up to 225 all under warranty?

the clutch was the same as the what the VR6 got...all they needed was the extra horses..

I think vw is on the right track, just a little slow to the game. If they did the r0gt jetta with a 3.6 4motion 6speed with the same body kit it would sell, targeting the 25-35 age range of which I am in. I am a vw enthusiast for many years and have recently started a family and have been in the market for a 4-door sports car of which hardly exists besides (s4. evo, sti). I really want vw to follow thru with this and not drop the ball. Believe me there are plenty of people who are looking for the same thing. Jetta R-GT 2007!!, lets hope
