they could do it w/ or w/out ez-pass..... there is a time stamp on the ticket when you recieve it. Once a cop told my brother(after pulling us over) that he knew he was speeding because of it(time stamp), but he caught him in the act anyway, so it was moot.but I don't think they can send you a ticket in the mail, based on some computer program output that calculated your avg speed to be greater than 65... I wouldn't put it past them, although people might find other roads to travel on other than toll roads, and they don't want that

There's actually something in EZ Pass corporate guidelines or charter that says they will not be used for speeding persecution.

the only thime ezpass will get you is if your going over 45mph through the 15mph lanes, i know several people that have gotten warnings about speeding through the lanes, and 1 guy got a ticket for speeding through, dont remember the fine.

As far as a ticket in the mail, I don't know how they could even do it because you could claim someone else was driving your car. The camera only takes a pic of your plate as far as I know.

Why would he pull you over if he hadn't caught you in the act? Cops are silly. I doubt that this would be anywhere near accurate, or hold up in court. I guess they could reference the mile markers. Does anyone know if the tickets are processed, stamped or documented in some way when you pay? Who here is a toll booth operator with info and fun stories?

They do it all the time with toll booths. I have pics to prove it.

It could be either - prosecute as in charge and ticket them, or persecute as in single them out then prosecute them.

if they used ezpass to catch speeders, everyone would be getting tickets. 80mph seems to be the slow lane on the turnpike.

They cant give you a ticket...but you can get a warning. My brother's prof. @ Kutztown U. he was sent a warning in the mail after he was speeding on the PA turnpike between harrisburg and philly. His avg speed was i believe over 100 mph....in his vette. He told his class (my brother's) that story last year. I believe it, since you are essentially being timed between the tolls. (when you get on & off) .... just something to think about.

This is na urban legend...there is state law on the books (PA, most likely NJ too) prohibiting the use of EZ Pass data for speed enforcement. They can only cite you electronically if you "speed" through the EZ Pass toll booth.

Obviously you've never been to Pennsylvania. I know a toll collector on the Ohio Turnpike once noted the time on the toll ticket. He looked at it and said, "wow...you were flying!" I entered at the PA/OH state line at mile marker 248 and got off at Cleveland I-71 at MM 161. 87 miles in 59 minutes according to my receipt. And that was in my A3 Jetta 2.0. I was late to catch a flight...

They fine truckers using EZ Pass on the New York Thuway if they speed, but not private drivers. They know that if they did, people would quit EZ Pass by the thousands, and EZ Pass would fail. Truckers are forced to use it by their companies. I refuse to use EZ Pass. I keep dollar coins in my ashtray. Very handy when going up and down I-95.

friend of mine went from the great egg harbor toll plaza to the bass river toll plaza on the GSP in something like 17 minutes? he got a ticket in the mail saying his average rate of speed was something like 100 mph? he went to court for it and it got thrown out.

Pennsylvania law states that the owner of the vehicle is presumed to be in control of the vehicle. If this is not the case, YOU must prove that someone else was operating the vehicle by giving that person's name, address etc... If you claim the vehicle was stolen, then the police will give you a report and if they find out you were lying, you will be cited for giving false information and making a phony report. Even if you say the car was being operated without your permission, you are still responsible.

PS: EZ PASS can only fine you for speeding in EZ pass lanes and it's not a citation..just a fine on your account.

A buddy of mine got a ticket without using ezpass, and he wasn't stopped by a trooper either. He said when he pulled into the toll both the guy took his ticket and his money, and then said to pull over to the office to receive his citation. He still hasn't figured out how they clocked him. I think it was in Ohio though.
