81 Jetta 81 Rabbit

 81 2-door Jetta, um project?« »

so i made this cause tom told me to and it seemed like a good idea.

just as an update for today 11/23, currently i'm looking forward to getting it painted soon, hopefully getting some le castelettes, and most likely getting some weitec gt coil overs. then i should be rocking.

and since i've been asked many times about how i did the mk2 seats:

Quote »

the bottom is very easy, you just switch the cushion and fabric over to the mk1 jetta seat frame, the top is a little more involved, you have to cut the center bar out of the mk1 seat frame, you just have to make a couple nips and tucks. Then cut the subframe center part out of the mk2 seat (the part that the fold down armrest bolts to) and center it up on the mk1 seat frame, and weld it in to place. the last thing we did was take the top lip off of the mk2 seat and weld it over the top of the mk1 top lip, this isn't required but it makes the fabric wrap around the seat tighter, also if you switch the top lip over make sure you bend it up a little bit or else it will make it hard to put it back into your car. it is a little harder than what it sounds because you have to do all the hog rings and get the armrest on there all perfect. but basically thats how its done

all the stuff so far on my car domain:

Finally getting to the point where all the little **** and up keep is coming to close and i can start doing the stuff that i want to do. unluckily on 9/23 i got backed into by some kid in the school parking lot, then he decided to try and lie to his insurance company to get out of it. they didn't believe his stupid bs XD. While it was sitting in the drive way with a dent that hit the tire on bumps i decided to put the wiring harness in that i had gotten from another diesel jetta in the junk yard. Made my engine bay look so much nicer, plus i could finally put the stock headlights in, but i kept the projectors+h4 bulbs, which are quite dim with out the relays, oh well. me and my dad also went to the car wash and spent 20-30 mins spraying the engine bay, oh yeah and the engine degreaser, that day i spent more money than i had wanted too, but i liked the results. getting it painted in a month or 2. and i decided against ats classics, as much as i love the way they look, i just can't justify spending that much money on wheels. so i decided to go with some polished le castellettes, just have to find a set... Right now i just wanna get the thing painted its original color(regatta blue metallic) get those wheels, the weitec 2.25" kit, mk3 style handles, and a little rubber antenna, get rid of the current wheel flares and put the little stone guards on the rear wheel arch, and then it will look the way i want it too and i will be happy yay for the money hole.

wheels i want, i'm gonna polish them for my car though:

Regatta Blue Metallic:

EW:

sexy head lights:

now:

before i got to love it:

7/10/05
just been trying to do all the upkeep that the car has not received from over the years right now. wheel bearings, fuel injectors, etc. I must say though, for a 50 hp diesel car with 178,000 miles on it, this a1 sure is fun as hell to drive. after i saw this jetta i decided, once i have the money i'm buying a set of ats classics 13x7 or 13x8. too hot. puts oem stretched rubber on them and woot woot. slick car. i decided i am definetly keeping the orginal color when i get it painted, then i'm going lower with struts&springs. can't wait, here are some pictures i took today. Next time i clean out my interior i'll take some pictures, the last ones were pretty bad because it was all torn apart.

ats classics on a 2 door.

2/21/05
me and my dad finished installing my mk2 seats, front and rear, this really helped make the car look good, I must say the more thats changed on it the more i like it, right now we're just focusing on getting it ready for inspection but we're having alot of wiring problems. for me, once its on the road i want to get the interior into nice shape and then i will start to worry about getting it painted, once its painted the new bumpers are on, we're going to put a black billet grill in, since i only have the outside lights and they're halogens or projectors or something i don't really know much about lighting, anyway so i'm not ditching those for euros, they're too nice, so of course a billet is going in, and i want to get clear corner lights too. and definetly get rid of those ugly pieces of plastic surrounding the wheel wells, ew.

1/16/05
my goal:looks crappy since i uploaded it, the only difference is that it would have euro bumpers instead of factory ones.

1/8/05: so far i have new front seats in it and mostly just done alot of restoral type of work. the new seats are great, they actually flip forward! i can't wait until the backseats are in and i get it painted, its going to be such a beautiful mk1. I bought all new tires for it, and i plan on stripping the wheels and repainting them then polishing the lip, should look pretty swell. i was a little skeptical at first, but this car is really cleaning up nice. oh and i forgot, i have eurobumpers for on it, just didn't put them on yet because i need to get the new front one since the other was damaged in shipping, these are alot nicer looking and won't stick out like a picnic table off the front of my car.

This is my Jetta 2 door that i bought off of ebay, the big selling point for me with it was that its a diesel and it is a 2 door. From talking to previous owners I found, it has a couple new parts, radiator, brakes, fuel filter, 2" techtonics exhaust. The last owner changed the head lights and put 2 pieces of a corrado grill over the 2 open buckets. My plans are just to keep it clean and keep it euro. and I don't plan on any performance mods since its a 55hp diesel.

here it is ready to come to its new loving home.

pictures from when it was on ebay:

The following pictures are from 3 owners ago. so me>seller>some guy>this guy.

as far as keeping it diesel, for now i am, but after i get some money saved up from doing the paint and suspension, then i'll be looking into rebuilding my 1.6d, buying a td, or build a carbed aba. or if i run into a cheap tdi. mmm tdi.

after my car wouldn't start yesterday morning we found out my battery is the suxzor, and it was only putting out 10v and like no cranking amps, so my dad called the previous owner who had bought the battery, and then they both went to walmart today and got me a new battery. then they came to my house and we all talked and he drove my car, which actually it was funny that it happened today since nov 24th is the day i bought the car off ebay, kind of a 1 year anniversary. really helped me to see how far the car has come cosmetically and mechanically. thought it was cool

God am I glad to hear someone else say this! Two door Jettas are sedans. All of them are, no matter how many times it gets argued that they are "coupes".

Quote, originally posted by Trev0rBr »

A true coupe also does not have a functional back seat. In fact, originally, coupes didn't have any back seat, but car makers started calling their 2-doors "coupe" as a marketing ploy.

Anyone who wants to argue the point, go look up "coupe" and "sedan" in the dictionary.

to Trev0rBr for knowing the difference !!

today my dad told me and my brother that he was sitting at a red light in his mk2 1.6td jetta when a probe pulled up along side him and started revving his engine (i think all the primer spots, and the blacked out grill on my dads jetta made him think my dad was a "tuner". so when the light turned green the probe drive launched it and took off, my dad said he was definetly giving it hell by the way the engine sounded, so when he saw the kid take off like that my dad took off too, and of course he beat him, my dad said he was gonna roll down the window and tell him he just lost to a diesel at the next light, but he got in the turning lane XD.

Anyone who wants to argue the point, go look up "coupe" and "sedan" in the dictionary.

The dictionary was not specific enough for me, but the good old Internet soon confirmed what I knew to be the difference.

To wit:
1953 Chevrolet Sport Coupe:

1953 Chevrolet 2-door Sedan:

I've also heard 2-door sedans referred to as a "2-door Post" before.

Now if somebody could REALLY create a Jetta Coupe, with front and rear roll-down windows, and no post between them, now that would be sweet.

I'd expect that it could really be done with enough ambition, as the Cabriolets have windows with seals that close up against that middle roll bar, so they could close against the front glass, maybe...

Anybody out there good enough with PhotoChop to try that one?

Thanks for indulging my little idea, and for reading my message...

Take care,
-Glenn

i don't think you can handle all the bottom end torque.

also, i have rabbit euro bumpers for my car, the back one is on but the front one i left on for the winter, those things are heavy duty, great "insurance"

Trevor,
Good to see your car comming along. I just picked up a MK2 (helios) interior recently and your install pointers should prove helpful for the rear bench. Also...I love your floor mats! That may seem like a little thing but its the little things that count.

I have a set of the wheels you want sitting in my garage. If you want a set of five I can get a hold of one more too. The clear is faded on them, but since you're gonna strip that off it doesn't really matter. I can polish them for you if you want. LMK...

BTW...I was at A1 invasion with my wife...we own the a silver jetta on classics...we talked to you for a couple minutes...
