 2007 Mercedes SLR - Over the top?« »

I was looking at the SLR redesign spyshots posted on Autoweek http://www.autoweek.com/apps/p...20001 and I got to thinking, has Mercedes gone too far? Have they added too much... stuff to the car? It just seems to be an endless morass of flaps, panels, filials, fandangles and fumphoral.

But then, I thought... no way baby! They haven't gone nearly far enough! This pimpbiscuit needs more and by 'more', I mean 'MORE'! So I fired up the ol' photoshop and set out to see just how much more I could stuff onto this thing. I quickly came to the determination that no matter what I did, it didn't seem to make that much difference. In fact, the only thing that seemed to change is that I felt that much more drunk. Other than that....pffft!

See for yourself.

I think the bumper or whatever that is, is a bit much. At first glance it looked good. But, then I realized that it actually took me about 10 seconds to notice that the first and second images weren't identical. I suppose that speaks volumes for your totally l337 photoshopping ski11z.

I think the Gonzo nose is too far, as are the curved supports in the lower airdam, also the mirrors. This is IMO one of MB's worst designs ever. I don't care how fast it goes or how good it handles or stops, it is hideous at best .

The car goes well over 200mph. If it needs some flaps and what not to keep it on the road, so be it. I have no problem with that kind of thing as long as it is functional.

 Re: (jacobyb) »« »

perhaps true on something like an F1 car, but none of the fluff on this SLR is functional. The front quarter panel vents dont need four louvers, the front lower airdam doesnt need to be split into six openings, the mirrors dont need twin struts, and the hood doesnt need finned vents.

All the venting and downforce can be accomplished much more cleanly, and with less bat-mobile styling

Your PS pic is broken.

The SLR has always been "overstyled" and pretty damned ugly.

Now the engine... I could look at that thing all damn day

My server has been very flaky. It's there. If you right click and go to show picture, it'll pop right up. Sometimes it'll come up on a refresh, sometimes not. Makes me grumpy, it does.

Seeing as I can't leave well enough alone, I had to play with the side view too. Stretched a bit. Added some more stuff. And still, aside from the misshapen stretch, it seems just fine. Go figure.

Whoops! I just realized, the 'original' SLR side shot above is not correct. That's actually a shortened version that I made. Worse, the extended one above is actually 'normal'. It says something if you can chop 12" out of the wheelbase of a car and it looks just fine. What that says, I have no idea, but I'm quite sure that it is something.

As posted above:

And the real original picture.

Can you pchop the interior? (2 steering wheels FTW) and some more pedals!

I have a late 70's Mossberg 500 shotgun 28inch fixed choke, a Marshall Valvestate S80 amp, stereo chorus, sounds amazing, in excellent condition and a 1976 Kawasaki KZ400 motorcycle that needs some work. WTT for anything interesting you might have!
