 The new Anniversary GTI!« »

Fresh from the Golf Record Day!

The new Anniversay GTI "Edition" will probably look like this:

To me, this is not a great Edition, as it is just build up by parts everyone can order easily out of the Individual Series.

I see painted valences and skirts, painted wheels, red GTI emblem on the steering wheel, golf-ball DSG knob, silver buttons on the stereo. Eh....

According to this link it is. I just hope they bring it to the states. I'm not feeling the matte black hufs though.

It's nice, but to me it doesn't stand out the way the MKIV 337, GLI, and 20thAE cars did. I do like the red-stitched steering wheel, although I could do without the matching red GTI emblem.

I'd buy one. What else do you want or expect them to do to it? There is only so much you can do to a car. I like the wheels.

I like the leather with the plaid seating area.

That could be because the MKV is already so nice to begin with that there isn't that much to do.

I'd expect them to offer up different wheels from the run-o-the-mill GTI. To me, painting the hufs doesen't constitute different enough wheels.

If it came with some wheels like the 20th (not exactly but alone the same lines) and some brushed aluminum mirrors...I think that is a better start than that...but still...it is going after mainstream. red Cars with black wheels...hell, my mk2 was like that

from the link - Fortunately Volkswagen took a less reflective route when deciding how to celebrate its Golf GTI's 30th birthday and instead stuffed 30 extra horsepower in the GTI's 2.0L TFSI engine that produces 200 bhp in standard trim.

30 extra hp from factory. That's nice enough to warrant purchase, even if the black rims are definitely not too special, approaching lame IMO.

Also, first time I've read that the 200 hp is "officially" Bhp for the 2.0. Maybe I haven't been paying attention... Leave it to those wacky germans to advertise real wheel hp ratings, but then won't get the speedo to read right!!!!!!!

Oh that's a golf ball?

Like you, I know it is because of the heritage of GTI's and their golf ball shift knob, but this one? I can see passengers unfamiliar with GTIs going why's the top of your automatic shifter all lumpy?

 Re: (BumbleBeeJBG) »« »

If it is the official one, I dont think they did as great a job as they did with the 25th anniversary.

The 25th anniversary was a huge leap for VW, in Germany at least, because the body kit had not been on any of the cars and became popular after the 25th was made.

You can orer a regular GTI with basically the same body kit from the factory in the states. I might be wrong but there are no real differences, at least that I know of, that make the kit on the 30th any different form the kit on the 25th.

Exhaust was different on the 25th than the regualr GTI, and it was one of the things you could spot if somebody just bought a body kit on their GTI.

Ride height was lowered on the 25th, brakes were upgraded, brake pads were upgraded. rear bushings were upgraded. We ll have to see
what the specs are on this

The Recaro's in the 25th, were the same as the ones offered before, except for the color change, so the seats on the 30th took the same route.

The steering wheel stitching looks grea, but I say it clashes too much with the seats. Th ereds are off. It might be the picture, but I dont think so. The floor mats and the steering wheel reds match, the seats do not.

The wheels are not anywhere close to the 25th, and even to the US 20th. The wheel on the 25th make the car, the black wheel on the 30th, although a nice retro touch, are nothing special. They detract form the car.

It is a great car in all, but it is going to be interesting to see what comes over to the US and how much it will run.

Yeah so do I. But with people unfamiliar with the history, you're going to have a hard time convincing them that's a Golf Ball.

Besides isn't this the first time that the car is just a GTI, not a Golf GTI?

Am I the only one who thinks these lights might look great on a Black Magic Pearl GTI? Not too dark like those horrible aftermarket examples. Just nicely 'euro' (and yes I hate that word too)

Those wheels are *not* the actual production wheels - this is a sneak peak "study" that is very close to the production version of the 30th Anniversary GTI.

Expect the U.S. 25th Anniversary GTI to be very similar. Keep your fingers crossed on an electronic locking front differential to go with it.

Lets hope those wheels are not the ones. BBS has to be included in a Anniversary GTI.

The MKIII had it, the MKIV had it, they better have it on the MKV.

ANd having the differential might finally shut up some people around here, although I think they will find something to whiney about if not that.

Sorry, I should have said Kreuzspeiche, since BBS started making all kinds of different ones.

For me BBS "style" was always the thin multi spoke.

And why are these called Detroit in Germany and Hufweisen(if that is even correct) here?

OK thats different... cross spoked wheels would look good, something with a lip would be awesome, stagered maybe?

Because "detroit" sounds cool to germans, makes it seem american? and hufweisen sounds cool and i hate to say it "euro" to use americans? thats my theory

Edit: hufweisen, translated on bable fish = Hoof ways, I am thinking the holes look like horseshoes... who knows

I thought about that before, but it should be called Hufeisen. Hufe is Hoof, eisen is iron.

VW seems to love making up names that people dont know how to pronounce
