VWvortex: First Drive - Eos | « » 4:47 PM 6-6-2006 | |
|
In Greek mythology Eos was the goddess of Dawn. She apparently had a "fling" with Ares, Aphrodite's lover and as the story goes Aphrodite (none too pleased with Eos) put a curse on her essentially turning Eos into a nymphomaniac(!). Eos then reportedly "fell in love" with a series of mortals and eventually married the Wind God Astraeus - thus the connection with Volkswagen historically naming cars after winds like Scirocco and Passat. And if you buy into the mythology, well then Eos was a bit of an unlucky tramp. Volkswagen's Eos also likes a good time, preferably topless which is just fine with us... Full Story...

Looks great. To be completely honest though, I am just glad that the eos has replaced the old background. That got a little old afterawhile.

"messing your carefully coiffed DO", as is hair-do. the design of this article is a little busy, unlike the normal clean Vortex look... Anyway, so no DSG option on the base EOS? PS youre right that EOS UK site is horrible. it takes a week to load and the graphics are weak and there is no reason it has to have that confusing map. The best is still the Veyron configurator.

Of course no TDI version for the US. I got a chance to see and sit in the EOS when I was in Germany this past May. It is a lot better in person! They had a preview of the EOS at the Volkswagen pavilion at the Autostadt right before its launch to the public in Germany on May 19 and as luck would have it my wife and I went in the late afternoon and were the only 2 people in one of the showings. The girl that was showing the car allowed us to sit in it; fondle the leather; raise and lower the top; look at the engine; ask questions to our hearts content; etc., etc., etc..... The only thing she didn't let us do was drive it. Awesome car.

I don't like it .... not aggressive enuff.... I like the design study drawings WAY MORE now that's hotness!VW has really, really lost me as a buyer of a new product with their bland stylings.... Audi too.... I can't stand that friggin' new grille at least you can get the 3.2VR and DSG.... that's all it's got that tickles me any

The article says DSG is a stand-alone $1075 option.
Sharp looking car It is SOOOOO much better than the old Cabrios. It seems to give a lot of content for the buck. I really hope VW does well with this one. It seems like a really great car, just not the kind of car that'll I'll probably ever purchase.

yeah, x1000 !!! Anywho, I think it look fantastic.
But I think in some photos it has some weird pudgy proportions. I can't wait to see it in person. From the photos it looks really smallish, but if it's as long as a Jetta and wide as a Passat I bet that is actually a really nicely sized car. I guess the proportions and height of make it looks smaller in the photos.

Well my loathing of the new golfs and jettas hasnt receded but I am definitely ecstatic to see that VW made this car. My favorite part about it is the interior, absolutely perfect if you ask me (especially the red/black leather combo.) definitely cant wait to see it in person.

"Later in the fourth quarter of this year a 250-hp 3.2-liter VR6 model will be added to the lineup."I thought that VW was done with putting this into new cars? Especially with the 2.0 FSI capable of similar power and torque curve with less weight.

From the article: The Eos also has the distinction of being brought over to the U.S. market with the same ride height as the German-specification model. If VW could do this for a "hairdresser's car", why couldn't they do it for the GTI? It seems that ride height is more important for GTI drivers than it would be for EOS drivers.

Agreed. And the last EVO I saw even worth considering, was priced at $37,000 w/ no leather. Way to close to a lot of luxury German car prices - for a hopped-up tin can.
