My German Jetta, a review and some pics« »

It's been about one and a half month ago since i got my Jetta. It was a long and not so smooth (almost) four month wait till i finally had it here in Germany. I have always liked the fifth generation GTI and when i saw the first pictures of the GLI i wanted it!! But to my disappointment it never arrived to our shores. I then had to do my best to try to get a Jetta that looks like the GLI, that was the only option i was left with...

One and a half month and about 9000 Kilometres later i have gotten to really love my car. It is a big change from my Bora (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2178802) that i used to have, especially powerwise. I find the Jetta very elegant, but most of all my appreciation goes to the oh-so smooth engine. I must say that it is by far the nicest engine i have driven, smooth and silky, still very temperamentful, it really has two totally opposite sides. A bit like Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde....

9000 Kilometres behind and so far no problem. I am looking forward how this car will hold up as my old Bora was as good as maintenance free, just needed to fill up the gas basically. The only thing that i had found maybe a bit irritating is the armrest. I never seem to find a good position for it. Sometimes it too far out and when you stick it a bit back it slides back and forth too easily, maybe it's just me...The trunk is also a jewel, and is the reason why i never went for the GTI, it would have just been too small.

As for modifications that my car has gone through can be better seen on the pictures. As i wanted the GLI i ordered the car with a GTI front, GTI steeringwheel + pedals some extra aluminium trims in the interior and so on. Other stuff like OEM GLI sideskirts (BIG BIG thanks to Chris Hatzo at Heritage VW!!!) and M3 lip i fitted later. The suspension and wheels i got last Thursday, which was sort of a sad story. I was told when i ordered the parts that i would receive them in a couple of days, but actually turned out to take almost two months , can i say that i was a bit sour But after they actually started working on the car everything went really nicely and the guys were really super. A cool thing was that when the boss of the wheel shop saw my car with the wheels on he wanted to take a picure of it and put it on their web site!

They ended up putting on three different kinds of wheels, one's beeing 20" EtaBeta Tettsut's X-Black, it looked so fanastic. They are not up yet but will check on them later and will post the pic of the 20"'s. Before they took the pictures i said i wanted to wash my car cause it would have annoyed me later on, so the wheel dealer offered a hand wash and even the boss was there washing and drying the car, now that was something else

The car is not yet ready and i have some things i want to change. One is of course the chip. The performance is actually really good, did actually bottom the speedo a couple of weeks ago just outside Hamburg on an empty Autobahn with the Climatronic reading 245 and still picking, but had to let off cause of a 120 speed limit that came up....I'm not really a fan of 0-100 Km/h, but more like everything from 100 and up, it's good to live in Germany

So, that's about it. Have had a lot of fun with the car and hopefully it will just get better in the future Thanks for your time!

I respect all types of car modification- I also understand that certain styles can be very polarizing. I'd rather focus my energy bashing misguided car designers- not passionate car enthusiasts.

Nah, have the radar And it's not clean! I wanted to wash it today but it is forbidden here by law to wash your car on Sunday's. You're actually supposed to relax on Sundays or something I think it's an old law that has to do with the religion.

I don't honestly know how much it's exactly dropped, but it's running on KW Coils. And i have to say that i'm suprised how smooth the ride is

Do you have any pictures directly from the front so we can see how much poke or no poke there is on the wheels? Do they rub at all?

I don't really have a good picture where you clealy see it but the from the rear picture you see probably better.

I have no rubbing at all in the back and the guy at the dealer said that there was enough space for a 5mm spacer. The front rubbs slightly, but i think it's the famous screw. or whatever. Have to find a thread here on the forum how to remove it, think i've seen something about it.
