Speakers, first Removing factory, i believe that the factory speakers are decent what is not is the spave of volume 6.5-7 front door woofer has only 4 to 5 inches tops of cavity depth, there is no way it should be that shallow,

same things go for a midrange, and even front door treble

So We will star by Removing Front door panel,

1) there are for exterior screw 3 on the boot, and the 4th is on the side where a treble speaker is

2) there is also 2 larger Torx screws behild the window control, to get there just pop it

3) use a door clip removal tool, and detach the door panel

4) Omce bottom detached, pull up gently, and violla

5) Treble is a bugger,i lot of pulling involved, and 1 screw

6) Drilling out the speakers i use 1/8, and another larger drill bit, that was truly a pain the butt

Make Sure your Windows are UP not to damage the glass

Front door is ready

Now similar tactics with the rear door, although it only holds on 1 screw, and 2 big screws, it little tougher to diconnect, unlike in the front door that has a harness component connections rather than indiviadual wiring

Now waiting for speaker to arrive

 Re: (Yevi) »« »

SUBWOOFER FIBERGLASS BOX

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

1) 1 Can of ACETONE if you want to reuse your brush/roller, more than once
2) Fiberglass Roller, you can get one online or in westmarine stores
3) 2 pakcets if fiberglass mat 2 sq. yards
4) 1 Gallon of Resin
5) 1 sq yard of fleece
6) staple gun
7) cheap brush
8) Gloves
9) Jig Saw, and Sander
10) mixing jug
11)carpeting
12)spray adhesive
13) optional dynamat or equivalent
14)masking tape
15)foil wrap
16)MDF

may something else i missed

1) I have removed side of the trunk carpeting with the compartment, i haven't gotten a change of document that, but it's simple remove some clips, and you will have to remove rear seats as well to get that piece out, there is a thread in FAQ of how to remove rear seats

2)Mask tape the cavity

3)To be safe i also use foil, just in case

4)I suggest to mix Resin about 4-8 oz at the time, pot life in the hot day could be less than 12 minutes, in the same time you will have first layer to work with fast

5)personally i like to work with mat, some people don't like it, but it depends on application, cuase we are laying it mostly flat mat would be a nice solution, precit mat in about 3x3 squares, or other comfortable shapes, and dip in resin, and apply, just like Papier Masche, only with the tough stuff

6) Violla first layer is done, lets repeat until you have at least 3 layes, the box might look unpenetrable, but if you want to keep your box longer, more layers doesn't hurt

7)once we have fit it inside the cavity, i precut and piece of MDF

8)we will need to bond the faceplate with the fiberglass togerther, and to accomplish that i use fleece

9)after fleece has been reinforced with more glass, and covered with Dynamat, I sprayed some adhesive, and tightened carpeting over the box

10) finished product

soo you are going to only listen to music off the HDD? what about XM or even FM? i know i get tired of my mp3 collection quick. i guess my real question is, is there anyway to include a radio of any kind into your setup? you also could get like the sprint broadband card and stream music... wow so many possibilities. im really interested in how this turns out..

you can have xm/sitius for computer via usb, or custom too

with 200 gigs i don't think i would need all of the above, sorry but that's just me

here is how do it, the funniest thing that XM receivers are free after rebates
http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=41001

same concept for sirirus, on sirius receivers are $80.00

or if you don't want to mess around
http://cgi.ebay.com/XM-PCR-Sat...wItem

XM PCR although discountinued because people were recording music for free

INTERNET, you don't need sprint broadband you just need phone with USB adapter for it,

there is a loophole with sprint about unlimited data plan, so you can use your cell phone as a internet data plan provider, but bluetooth phone is the way to go. i tried with friends it woriked fabulous, i use my phone as a modem, my contract expired, but i am not renewing cause i am going to school in Canada in spring

How did VW handle the Crossovers in your Jetta? In my GTI they were triangular boxes next to the woofer but I don't see anything like that in yours due to the doors being shorter I guess.

well now i need some suggestions
there is no matchng color material to fabricate the speaker, and the door

so i will have to add another color since my car is reflex silver i am thinking of uphostering a lower door panel matching silver, with blue stripes going in interior, and exterior

what do you guys think

OOh you have balls. I wouldn't have went that far, but **** it man, go all out

Edit: If I were you, I would go with a 5.1 channel sound card, if you have an open PCI slot. I'm not sure what kindof on board audio your motherboard has, but I'm guessing it's 2-channel. If you use that you will have no control over the F-R fade in your system, other then your (4ch) amps gains. I also would forget about a preamp EQ, the PC will handle that well.

well windoze is a fracture of the cost it's only cost under $150.00 plus you have better audiocard, dual screen videocard allows to have 2 displays. even though you can get xp, slim hard drives aren't good is harsh automotive environments, and last you can't boot from flash drive, which allows my windozaa to wake up from hibernation with in 5 seconds, and boot with in 10-15

Does the 6 1/2" speaker in the front have a spacer? I am looking around for a new set of speakers but I am having a hard time finding ones that fit. There is only like 1" of space for the front door speakers. Atleast that is was Crutchfield said.

what do you mean by spacer, there is about .25 inch in between the speaker, and the door panel
and really little space in between the window, and the magnet the large woofer diamteter is roughly 7 inches, and magnet is 3.5, operates at 2 ohm

The stock 7" has an integral spacer built into it. You'd need to frabricate your own for a replacement, or go wo with the Rainbows that come with one. Total clearance is about 2-2.25". Crutchfield was probably refering to the clearance from the door skin itself to the window track, which is about an inch.

well i don't think you will be able to fit those, because of the coaxial components , generally you just need at lest .5 inch, i suggest you advice crutchfield service representative, they have all those numbers in their databases, look what fits, i am sure you will be able to fit a component set in factory cavity, but not coax, besides it will sound like crap since tweeters are directional, and in this case you will have to grow ears on your bum bum
