Wait What?

They just let them borrow it?

If these people are still driving their rabbits after all this time, don't ya think you can give them a new SUV and not just rent one to them?

Don't you understand? Nobody in the mk3 forum cares about a fast VW. If you wanted to be everybodys friend you would drop the car on it's nuts, get some type of OEM wheels (the more you spend the cooler you are), a sticker for your hood (something like, "no fat chicks, will rub"), some tape for your headlights, some rusty paint (for a DIY paintjob), and a really big shifter.

It shouldn't be hard to find a nice older model with a ba-zillion kilometers on it. The tough part is finding one still worthy of being photographed.

This is lame!

When I was at the Detroit Auto show, Saab had an old 900 with over 1Mil miles on it still running on original engine and turbo. The owner received a brand new 2006 9-3 Aero.

VW is just gonna let the drive a Touareg for six months?

Pfffft!
In 6 months that beast will burn the same amount of fuel their rabbit will consume in a decade. You gotta be crazy to enter the contest!

There was a guy at Watefest in 03 or maybe 2004 with a Mk II Diesel Golf with over 700,000 miles on it. And the bottom end was the unbuilt, original

They need to find that guy. I even have a pic of the car, owner, and large sign he had displayed on the windshield somewhere....

There is the part about full logs.

And, the tendency of VW odometers to break makes things tricky.

The funny thing about my odometer, is it broke for between 1-2 years. That means it really has around 350K on it.

Bingo, beat me to it. What odo on a VW actually works after 160K?!?!

As for the rest of you, chill the F out!! I'm not some VW fan-boy, but give em a break. They don't have to do jack-Fn-shizzle for anyone, but they're giving up two $60K plus vehicles to use for free. Last time I checked, VW was LOSING tens (if no thundreds) of millions of dolars in the US. The fact they're doing anything is a nice gesture.

If someone came to your door with a $10million check, with no strings attached, you'd flock to the Tex to complain about it somehow. Give it a rest already.

crappy prize

Cool idea and I agree, why a Touareg for only 6 months? This idea is being kicked off on the heels of Saab's promotion where every radio station was talking about it. I think my local station would poke fun at VW for the 6 months part and call them cheap bastards.

They should have postponed the idea until there was a diesel rabbit and given it to them to keep.

bah what a tease. If I still had my 86 Jetta I wouldn't trade it just for six months of use of a Toe Rag.

I miss my Jetta I had 486,000 miles on it when she was totaled in 93. By now she would be well over a million miles which was my intent.

My 81 Rabbit Diesel had 401,000 when I sold it for $400. That was 1989 thats when I bought my jetta. My buddy drove that rabbit to 600,000+ miles when he sold it for $400. It was still getting 45mpg running pizzas and at that time burning 1.5 quarts per 10,000 miles.

I doubt very much my 2000 New Beetle 1.8T will make it to half that milage.

Chances are, If you have the "oldest running" or "highest mileage" TDI.. you are getting somewhere between 50 and 65 mpg. Good luck breakin 25mpg in your new V10!
