FireVortex: FAQ » | « » 9:27 PM 1-26-2007 | |
|
=====FireVortex FAQ=====Changelog A Javascript Error Pop-up displays when I'm viewing a Thread or Forum (ie Error: document.getElementById("fv-header-favforum") is null) Send me an IM or use the report bug feature located in the menu bar. Please report the exact error along with the click-thru sequence prior to the pop-up. How do I Add a Favorite Forum to my Drop-Down? When viewing a forum category page (ie, Computers) In the menu area on the top left. You'll see a next to 'Favorite'. Just click the button and refresh the page. How do I Add a Buddy to my Drop Down? View a user profile and click on 'Add Buddy' What is FV-QR? When a user posts using the "FireVortex Quick Reply" Lost Favorites Forums Currently the favorite forums are stored in a cookie. Please check your internet/firewall/antivirus settings. Slow Loading Thread Preview Thread previewing parses the 'print' version of a thread. If a thread is over 100 pages, it may take some time for the content to load into the background of Firefox (it is cached for future use) My IMs Now Open as a Full Size Window A weird bug exists with Firefox 3.0 in which installing/updating an extension the windows will return to full size. Users have reported double clicking the title bar each time will return the window to normal size. Eventually Firefox will restore this behavior to normal. No known fix at this time. I Killed-A-Thread and Now Can Not Find it When you kill a thread, FireVortex will just hide the thread in the HTML. A toggle button will appear at the top menu area indicating a thread was hidden. Simply click the toggle button to view. You can click on the [+] link and the thread will no longer be killed. I Killed Threads or Ignored Users and Now Only See 10 threads on a Page FireVortex will just 'hide' a thread from view, it will NOT pull in additional threads to replace the hidden ones. What is this My FireVortex Page? This page will automatically aggregate RSS data from your favorite forums and watched topics. You can automatically reload feed by clicking on the tabs to keep up on current discussions. What is the Shoutbox? The shoutbox is a simple ajax chatroom which you can chat with other FireVortex users in real time. (no refreshing). I only ask to keep it clean (NC-17) but what happens here is OTR. What are the limits on Killing threads, Buddies, Ignored Users, and such... On the My FireVortex page, a Stats section will list the current limits. How do I Change FireVortex Options? In Firefox; Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > FireVortex: Click on Options. I Changed an Option but nothing happened 'Save' the options page, and refresh the page. I Made Changes to the Options or Killed a Thread, Added a Buddy, Ignored a Users but Everything Resets Firefox will rollback changes if a crash occurs. If you exit Firefox properly, all changes made within FireVortex will be saved. I just Installed/Upgraded FireVortex and no Watched Topics or IM History appears FireVortex parses data every 30 minutes to an hour when you are currently browsing the forums. This data is stored in a cookie as well. (double check your browser/firewall/antivirus settings) I don't see such and such emoticon Some emoticons are hidden and only appear during certain months. I also try and add a few new ones for each release. I use FireVortex at Home, Laptop and Work, Can I Sync my Data? No, Data is stored local in the user.js file. Other extensions have the ability to sync multiple profiles. How do I know what Version of FireVortex is Installed? In Firefox; Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > FireVortex When I use Google Image or Yahoo Image Search, FireVortex Menu Bar Displays Greasemonkey compares the url location to invoke FireVortex. I have tried to block them out but a few may slip in here and there. Is FireVortex Available for Other Browsers? Currently testing for Webkit - Google Chrome for Windows & Apple Safari for Mac . Sorry, No IE (never) "The Screen flash" using FireVortex FireVortex runs internally on Greasemonkey. A drawback to this method is how Greasemonkey interacts with Firefox. FireVortex does not load or Firefox is just spinning/loading FireVortex runs AFTER the page has completely downloaded to the browser. This issue is not related to FireVortex but the forums (and a third-party site) | Quote, originally posted by eurovw95 » | download firefox go to http://firevortex.net/download/ and download it. its alot better then the stock vortex.. its like OEM+ for vortex...

=====Other Tools for VMG Forum Communities=====tinytex.com Save space in your sigs. tinytex.com will redirect to forums.vwvortex.com only. Easy, just plug in the thread id after the trailing slash like so: http://tinytex.com/3046153 Where 3046153 is the id of this thread, now you saved 20 or so characters. V-Dub Custom Google Search A refined search engine which indexes VW-Related websites, from aftermarket companies to various forums. Includes option to add to your iGoogle homepage and MySpace. If you are using firevortex, the link 'Google Search' in the upper right, already points to V-Dub Search.

Added another feature, ignore user. Borrowed from phpbb.ignore.user.js but modified. I'll probably go back and modify the code to actually remove the post from the html vs just hiding it.

Its setup to work with forums.vwvortex.com and forums.thecarlounge.net. I haven't tested it yet with the other sister sites since the html is a bit different, if someone wants one for mwerks or whatever, I could modify something for them. I'll have a few more updates this weekend. I'm working on ignore users in the forum level (ie, when you are browsing the computers forum and someone you have ignored won't show up, whereas now you have to be in the thread level). I also want to hash out an extended PM window script, so you can easily insert smilies, links, images, maybe make the window bigger or have it customizable. (just like if you were making new post with all the *cool* options)

Rich, your work here is much appreciated. However, I think I'm missing something.I want to size-down images, but I'm not sure how to edit the file for a smaller pixel width. Also, does the max width have to be a "typical" screen resolution size, like 1024 or 800, or can sizes in between be used?

Sorry, documentation is never my thing The size you enter in px is what max-width attribute value will be placed in the img src tag. I can be any numeric value from 0-XXXX, whatever fits your viewing pleasure. Personally, I have mine set at 900. To set this value, once you load up the scripts, reload this page and click on Tools > GreaseMonkey > User Script Commands > FireVortex: Set Image Max Width. A little javascript pop-up will appear and type in the desired value. If you want to test it, head over to this test post I made: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3046445 The hubble image is 1280px wide and should stretch most typical viewing areas without the greasemonkey script. Hopefully that helps!

I have installed the 1.5 script, however I do not get the breadcrumb search or the RSS button. I have been able to resize the images, youtube embedding, and do get the link for ignoring a user. Any ideas?

There are actually two scripts, one for zerothreads and one for zeroforums. Just install this one then when you browse the forum listings, ie computers, golf iv, r32, n, etc... they will appear. I'll consolidate things in the future but this is easier to test with.

I am having problems with this too, but I haven't really looked into it yet. I will take a closer look when I have some more time (read: not at work). I'll also look into implementing some of those other features for you if you want. Once again, awesome

I am having problems with this too, but I haven't really looked into it yet. I will take a closer look when I have some more time (read: not at work). I'll also look into implementing some of those other features for you if you want. Once again, awesome |
Look at my reply above, two scripts (one for threads one for forum thread listing). I'll need to make an FAQ soon! I'll send you a PM.

small update to thread.user.jsHighlight sponsors and vmg moderators. This will just change the background color on the leftcol and titlebar area to certain color based on their level of sponsorship. **To update, just uninstall the existing scripts and following the directions listed in the first post**

It'd be cool if it "folded" an ignored user. Like, make it just show the head section of their post and their Name instead of showing just a blank post.Oh, and I just found a bug with the default set of sites. zerothread* doesn't cover zeropost, which is what comes up after you post to a thread. And zeromodify too, which comes up when you edit a post.

Ok, I'll take a look at those urls and make sure nothing conflicts in the xpath code. Agreed on the collapse, I'll try and hash that out soon.

OK, I didn't realize some people have youtube urls in their sigs. Can you point me an example? (just send me an IM) | Quote, originally posted by Mortal_Wombat » | | im gonna steal part of your sig for my sig to promote firevortex if thats cool |

OK got it. I need to blow the dust off my xpath book and read up on preceding nodes. As the only thing that determines a signature in zeroforum's software is a simple hr tag. (unless someone here know how to do that off the bat).Quick feature question. Would it be worthwhile to have a generic user highlight where you can select certain users and their posts/threads are highlighted just like the sponsors/mods?

I wouldn't need such a feature but maybe someone else might?
