Maybe they're comparing equivalent price points. The G35 with a ton of options is still less expensive than a base 335 (which you won't find at a dealer anyway)

No, you factory order it like many people do with BMWs.

Its a hot product and dealers (especially in major Metro areas) don't have squat in stock.

My buddy's oldman is getting a 750 and has to order it, dealer has one in stock and nobody around has what he's looking for.

I thought it was pretty decent considering it gives up 76hp to the G35.

I'm surprised the G35 lost to the 328i, but then again it lost to the TL-S and IS350 in another test. While the comparos don't really mean anything, it can't be great for Infiniti's advertising and public mindset if they keep losing tests.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the last G35 also typically lose to the 330i (which is similar in performance to the 328i)?

Seems to be working for them so far seeing how the G35 sedan is beating TL and IS in sales.

 Re: C&D: 328i sedan vs G35 sedan comparo (bay) »« »

The pretty much underscores that the 328i only pales in comparison to the 335i. I predicted this would be a possible outcome when the 328i's specs were released.

It also shows that the G35 already has its work cut out for it battling the 328i at the low-end of the market; the 335i is a solid level ahead of both.

For kicks and giggles, the last time C&D matched the low-end 3-series against the class, it was a 184-hp 325i versus a host of higher-hp competitors, including the 298-hp G35. The 3 managed to secure second place, with it's only notable deficiency being power. The G won it's points for delivering a lot of power for little money, but lacked the precision of it's German rival.

All told, the 328i improved the most. It has the greatest improvement in power (to a very respectable level), handling, and as C&D apparently ranked it, overall it's the preferred pick in the lower-end of the segment.

Unfortunately for Infiniti, being the cheapest and having a high horsepower rating isn't enough to be the best.

Unless you're counting one-off months, the G35 sedan lost to both the IS and TL sedans in sales last year. We will see how well they recover this year, but as it stands, the G is the underdog among the Japanese sport sedans.

The E90's are a quandry for me. I love the way they drive, I hate the way the sedan looks and I will not have I-Drive.

Also, I pale at the idea of spending $50k on a well-optioned 335i.

C'est la vie. My quest for the ideal, low-mileage 330i ZHP continues.

Ugh right. Just like redesigned Lexus posted 900+% increases in sales when it was brand-spanking new, this wasn't sustained.

Closer to the end of this year, we'll know whether or not the G can overcome last place.

Yep.

And I can't help but say I told you so to the Infiniti fanboys. Here are some choice quotes from previous threads:

Quote, originally posted by senseamp »

G35 will give you 335i performance at 325i price. I don't think it'll be eating 3 series' anything.

Quote, originally posted by ElixXxeR »

I love how you compare the 325i to the G35 when the 330i doesn't even compare,

Quote, originally posted by senseamp »

It doesn't need to prove anything, it has 50 more horsepower and 50 lbft on the Bimmer. It's the bimmer that needs to prove it has some redeeming qualities to justify its lack of power at a much higher price.
Anyways. Good night to you. Enjoy your Smooth_I6

G35 blows the lesser BMW's out of the water. Maybe M3 will be able to compete with it at 150% of the price.

Quote, originally posted by livingVoice »

The new 07 G35 will destroy the 328. I mean the 07 G35 will annihilate the 328. Or let me put it this way so that certain mental individual will understand, the 07 G35 will obliterate the 328. The only people who will purchase the 328 over the G35 are either women, image conscious buyers, or who happen to have similar genetic make as the so-called GLS_VR6.

Aside from the delusional GLS_VR6, the rest of the human race on this planet knows that the only competition to the 07 G35 is (no it's not the IS350 or TL type-S) the 335i turbo. And thanks for the G35, otherwise bmw drivers will have to endure driving the over-priced, underpowered car.

And my personal favorite:

Quote, originally posted by livingVoice »

I also stand by my statement that the 07 G35 will destroy the 328. You should know by now I was comparing the 07 G35 over the 328.
If you indeed test drove the new G35 (interesting, only few automotive journalists have been able to so. even if I can, I am not able to. either you're not telling me the truth or you're extremely lucky) and still prefer the 328 then so be it. The new G35 will outperform the 328 in straight line, slalom, braking, lateral accelaration, Also, no professinal magazines in their right mind are comparing the 328 to the 07 G3 because it is abundantly clear to most people that the 328 wont be able to hold its own against the 07 G35. It's like throuing eggs against stones. But of course the 328 will have the German feel (whatever that mean) so at least you will feel like the 328 is faster, has more slalom speed, more g, better braking I guess.

Having driven both of these (well, 330i instead of 328i) they both drive great, but the 3 series interior is a dealbreaker for me. They hid all the buttons, but they put the navigation system DVD slot into the dash

Last place...that's why Car and Driver named the G as a 10 Best Car, Automobile named it an All-Star, Motorweek Driver's Choice Awards named it for best sport sedan and Intellichoice called it the best overall value in sports sedans under $38,000.

Stop acting like the BMW completely trashes the G. That couldn't be further from the truth. (But what else do I expect from you but half-truths or outright lies? )

How long have you been searching for a ZHP? They are pretty available here and in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Fantastic cars that really were a great deal (for BMW money anyway).

i bought my car before the new G was out but have no regrets since. the new G doesn't drive too differently from the old one imo and the sedan's styling (both generations) have always been so-so for me. the coupe is a different story.
