my dad had to stop washing his 88 camry wagon after 10 years or so because he would lose large chunks of body...but the engine ran for over 250,000 miles with no rebuild so I had no gripes. Sold that thing after over 15 years of use and no major problems.

Eh, do you want someone to post pictures of all Japanese cars from the late 70s early 80s? You could see those cars rusting as they drove out of the dealership.

Chevy Vega. Apparently one of the reasons was because of the way they were transported (sideways) in leaky train cars.

The Stanza/Altimas and Maximas (well, the third gens at least, don't know about the earlier ones) of that era actually hold up much better rust-wise than the Camrys and Accords from around the same time. I've personally very rarely (if ever) seen a rust-afflicted version of any of those cars.

We had a 91 Isuzu Trooper that we used for parts, and it was the rustiest vehicle I have ever seen in my life. Before we sent it off to the scrap yard, I kicked all the rust off the body and had a serious pile of rust to sweep up afterwards. Toyota trucks 92 and older are also very rusty.

I like to think my Vanagon could rust with the best of them, at least in the vicinity of the seam welds.

I think the '73-86 GM Pickup and *any* of the old Japanese compact trucks might be up near the top of the heap.

Road salt is the thing I miss least-of-all about the Midwest... well, OK, the unrelenting flatness was pretty bad too.

Are you talking about rusting from underneath? I don't think it is fair to call a vehicle prone to rust just because the paint is allowed to deteriorate due to neglect, allowing the elements to get to the now unprotected metal below.

That being said- it seemed like a lot of GM cars of the 80s had poor paint on the hood, trunk and top.
