 insurance related question/advice needed....« »

hey guys (and girls),

i got a question and i'm sure others have had this happen ....

my car now, has been "hit and run" not once, not twice, not three times, FOUR times.

what i mean is, "scraped" basically. my rear bumper was scraped by a bad parallel parker obviously, and my 2 fenders on the drivers side have got side by side parking scrapes, and now, my bumper has what appears to be someone cutting a right hand turn tight and scraping me.

my question is this, at first i was gonna just pay for all of this to be fixed.

but now it's probably added up to be significant to some extent, i'm guessing around 1000 bucks? b/c i'm gonna need both bumpers resprayed, which i'm guessing is 400/bumper + the fenders small scrapes.

these are things that of course you don't notice until days later and what not. so i'm wondering, do you think my insurance company will let me claim this and have it all fixed?

or will they say "you shoulda called the cops, or called us sooner blah blah blah" and try and get out of it?

i NEVER make claims or have tickets, so i'm not really worried about my rates going up at this point. i just don't have the money to deal with all this b.s.

Thanks,
VEE

If you have comprehensive insurance and the damage costs more than your deductible, you should be covered. The question is whether they'll say you need to pay your deductible four times ("once per incident")

They might not like that you saved everything up and waited until you felt like reconditioning the car at one time.

thanks, i know what you're saying.

the only problem is, i was gonna pay for the **** myself b/c it wasnt gonna be more than the deductible. plus you don't notice this crap right when it happens. people are such jacks for driving off. i'd strangle them if i caught them doing it.

thanks for posting a reply.

more welcome if anyone knows!

I have yet to see an insurance company let you pay only 1 deductable for multiple things like that, even through no fault of your own. The only way to get around that would be to try and lie to them, but I really wouldn't recommend that. If you get caught, insurance fraud can lead to jail time.

For the back bumper, consider getting a trailer hitch without the ball, just the post. It's usually enough to poke a good hole in their bumper should they be careless enough, which they appear to be.

actually i've been considering this:

taking 2 - 2x4s, putting 4 inch nails thru them like a spike strip, putting rope on them, then hanging them from the boot lid and the bonnie, as protection when parked.

this way, i get no damage. altho if i did that, i bet they would key my car after they got spiked.

heh.

i'm not a fraud guy, no thanks, but it does amaze me how many times people do lie to insurance companies and get upgraded parts.
