I still can't believe how much people complain about how this looks, or how that looks ... yeesh.

That said, I'm glad to see this will get the 2.0L TDI. It means that some years down the line perhaps I can convince my bf to consider one of these as a possible alternate to a hybrid -- he currently drives a 2004 Prius but is quite interested in TDIs as well. Certainly I think this would be more practical, and there would be no worry about the battery pack failing down the line... and the interior is a heck of a lot more interesting than the Prius interior.

I, however, will not cancel my GTI order for this. I don't see any mention of some of the goodies the GTI gets (although I would expect the TDI to get the DSG) and as we know now, the dual-zone Climatronic is going away after '07, period. Too bad, because he's a native Floridian and what feels great to me is a bone-chilling arctic wind to him.

Last year, part of the hype behind this wagon was a VR6 and AWD. This car appears to have neither. Oh well... I'll keep my eyes on it regardless...

 Re: (Stealth_TDI) »« »

The rear end looks okay to me. I'm just confused over how much space it has:

The styling of this new wagon appears to be a mix of current Golf/Jetta and Saab-esque design ques with large wraparound rear tailamps that are a departure from anything else VW currently offers. Gone too is the slab-sided look of the Jetta IV wagon in favor or a "sportier" looking rear end treatment. Interior volume with the seats folded down is still considerable at nearly 55 cubic feet and larger than the Volvo V50 (46 cu. ft.), the Jetta Wagon's only real competitor in this segment.

Aside from offering the sporty feel and fun to drive performance of a Jetta, the SportWagen opens up a new world of possibilities in the way of usable cargo room— 32.8 cubic feet to be exact, or an even more impressive 66.9 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. For those whose active lifestyle requires even more room, there is an optional fold-flat front passenger seat that provides additional cargo space. Fold-flat front passenger seat is available with “V-Tex” leatherette seating.

"Sporty" I guess means more "Prius-like", those photos make it look like a pregnant guppy....like how the Prius looks......

The other photos from the golf/jetta wagon annoucment do it much better justice, althouth I too am not a fan of the odd wrap around tails (very honda-ish)

i am so extremely dissapointed with the rear end of this car. one of the beautiful things of my current j wagon is the squareness of the hatch, that is what makes it very unique. that extra space that it offers inside and on top is HUGE!!!! I will not buy this car now, stylewise it is no different than a sabb or audi or subaru. lets be original guys!

you lost my sale!

volvo maybe? or lancer? yup.

I dunno. I think it looks fine. MUCH better than the new (or for that matter current) Impreza... No, I realize it's not really a comparison, it's just a response to those saying that this looks like a Subaru. Still, I'd take a Legacy wagon over this...that is IF they offered it with a stick!

One concern I have is that ther is no mention of the availability of manual tranny on this car here in the states.

If manual trannies are available, will they only be 5 speeds or will with certain motors will you be able to get a 6 speed???

I dunno. I kinda like the tail lights. I'm glad they went back to a more traditional linear light design.

As with all VWs, I'm sure it will be much more impressive in person.
