My C2 VRT Dyno | « » 4:27 PM 4-7-2007 | |
|
So the results are in, my first day at the dyno.. I got two hours on the thing so I could tune my greddy profec and play with timing. I am extremely pleased with the results.. I was wanting to crank boost up to 19-20psi but the most I could consistently hold was 17psi. Low boost is now tuned to 10psi and High boost is tuned to 17psi.. off is @ 5psi My Air/Fuel was DEAD ON, the power was smooth and consistent and everything held together and performed quite excellent for nearly 20 pulls, the dyno operator commented this was the best running VRT he has ever seen and I was without doubt the most powerful vdub or audi thats been there. Ego Boost from hellzya! I also tried to see what the top speed on my .681 TDI 5th gear was, but unfortunately the dyno shut down at 170mph.. and I still had 1500rpm til redline 8) More info on my car: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2389842 Video: http://dwarfurl.com/5971e and the meat of the beast:

I just got the VFs. You can't beat a fully machined mount with an insert. When you've seen a bolt on vr6 kill a brand new stock mount with an insert while launching, you lose a little respect for them. They don't really vibrate the car much until I put the a/c on, but they made the car 10x better to drive.

you dont put down 400lbs of torque and not expect motor to move a little... compare mine to other VRT dyno videos and you'll see 10x the movement with stock mounts and over 2x the movement with inserts..

I'll try to find video of some 400hp pulls on the stock mounts. It looks like the motor is going to rip off the front mount at 20psi. Then it falls on its face when you let off.

i've seen lots high horsepower cars on the dyno with way less movement. I guess its in what you want. I prefer my motor to sit in place.

thanks everyone, I'll have a better video up tomorrow with a new angle on the motor and I'll take those 2 down.. They asked me if I wanted them to tune it, I told them it didn't need it.. I expected the AFR to be good from my VAG logs (albeit much lower sample rate).. It was steady 12.5 at WOT, a little leaner than Jeff Atwood told me it would be but the dyno operator said he always sees a fraction lean due to the altitude.. Overall everyone in the shop was stunned by how well fueled this thing was, again confirming my overall pleasure w/Chris & Jeff's products about the mounts, guys Ive watched them countless times now and if you notice the entire car lunges forward, if you take in the amount the car moves vs the amount the motor moves you'll find the motor is moving much less than you think it is.. hardly at all but yes it does move some.. outside going with solid mounts however I dont think you'll find anything better than VF Engineering

I turned to VWMS mounts after breaking a VF front mount.

Nice numbers especially in the higher altitude. Looks like its time for a larger turbine housing or some cams to keep the power up until redline.

I have an inline fuel pump, and internals are stock I picked up a freshly built 02A from an abandoned project, took the Diff and Gears out and put them in my 02J housing... I got a killer deal on it, the guy I got it from took a nice loss but I forget how much it cost for the cryotreatment.. He had them in for less than 1k miles before his motor blew and the gears still looked brand spanking new. They are Rocco VR6 gears, I like that 1-3rd are longer and my TDI 5th makes for a great VRT powerband..

where was the work done at as far as the cryo process? Building a vrt here soon, wondering which direction to go w/ the trans. Whether it be APTuning gearset, Quaife or just a cryo treat... the 3rd option seems the most realistic so far

I wasent spiking 17psi, I was holding 17psi.. I could get it to spike more but it'd hold less in the higher RPM's.. The exhaust pressure is overcoming the wastegate spring, I only have a 5.5psi spring, I'll put like an 8psi spring in it and I should be able to hold 20+psi all the way to redline.. I thought it was going to take more boost to produce the numbers I did, so I was pleased to say the least.. Next time I expect to reach (actually surpass) my goals with a larger wastegate spring & water/meth injection,.

Is an inline fuel pump required for the #42 injectors and chip? I have the stage 1 kit intercooled with 3" and the injectors, chip and boost controller are sitting in my basement.
