Tribute: '87 Ruf CTR "Yellow Bird" | « » 7:41 PM 4-8-2007 | |
|
The CTR's combination of a low curb weight, a high power output and carefully chosen gear-ratios combined to give it awesome performance - it could go from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds, from 0-100 mph in only 7.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 211 miles per hour, making it the fastest production car available in the world at the time. Base Price When New: $223,000 Miles Per Gallon: 10/21 mpg Curb Weight: 3040 lbs Powertrain Layout: Rear-Engine/RWD Transmission: 5-Speed Manual Configuration: Twin-Turbo Flat-6 Displacement: 3600 cc Power: 469 bhp @ 5950 rpm Torque: 408 lb-ft @ 5100 rpm Redline: 6800 rpm Top Speed: 211 mph 0 - 62 mph: 4.0 sec 0 - 100 mph: 7.3 sec 0 - ¼ mile: 11.7 sec @ 133.5 mph Skidpad: .90g

Most of its performance numbers are still fairly impressive today.

Some quick trivia facts:Later models of the CTR did not have the intake above the rear wheel arches (as can be seen in the components picture). It was deemed not as effective as they thought it might be, and swapped to an air feed from underneath the car. Also, some models had carbon-fibre front wings, doors and hood (which was otherwise aluminium). The YouTube clip someone posted above is a section of a video Ruf made called 'Faszination'. Used to know a guy with a red brother to "yellow bird" back in the mid 90's, had a few rides in it, including the fastest ride I've ever had to 100mph on a back street...and a race against the then new 993tt I never drove it, in fear it would self distruct (less than 40k, two complate engines, 3 trannies and countless turbos, always something wrong with it...it was not driven lightly ) or cause me bodily harm (not the easiest car to drive at speed)...nothing like getting on it on the hwy and beating sportbikes, or doing an unintentional donut at speed Quite the car....

Ruf's main goal when building the CTR was that it was made to be faster than the 959. This is part of the reason why they used a Carrera body instead of the wider Turbo. More narrow tires hurts acceleration, but the slim body helps top speed
