 Privat Wheels & VWVortex Announce 2007 Design Challenge« »

Wvortex is home to the best VW enthusiasts in the world, and we’ve come up with a special challenge for all our resident armchair designers. VWvortex has teamed up with Privat Wheels to bring you the 2007 Design Challenge. You will have a chance to flex your creativity and show us your skill and let us see your vision of the ultimate 2007 VW GTI!

The contest is pretty easy and straightforward. Members of VWvortex will submit a rendering of a 2007 GTI, designing it as the “Ultimate VW.” The theme is wide open, and can vary from a full-on show car to a track-prepped racer. Nothing is out of bounds here! The one stipulation of the Design Challenge is that your submission must include a brand new wheel design that will be identified as a Privat Wheel. The new wheel design cannot be anything that Privat already offers in 2007, or an existing or intended wheel design of any company. You can go to http://www.privatwheels.com for more info on Privat and their wheel line.

We know, we know… the contest is cool and all, but what’s in it for you, right? Well, our friends at Privat Wheels have something cool up their sleeves.

I'm game.

QUESTION: Do we have to use those images? Or, can we modify the image however we want?

You don't have to use these images, but since there is a possibilityy of the final product being used as a promotional piece, you will want to make sure you have the rights to use the original. We offered up a couple in high res that have no strings attached. You can also shoot your own picture to work from.

Otherwise you are free to be as creative with the car or the background or whatever. The only catch is that your final designmust feature an original wheel that can be labeled as Privat (Sorry, no BBS CH's this time around).

Thanks Bryan....

This will for sure be made into a promotional piece. Privat is going to turn it into a signature series poster that will be passed out at Waterfest in July.

We are looking forward to seeing the creativity here, along with your views of the ultimate VW.

Good Luck to all.

It does stink to not be able to use photoshop as good as others...

But hey - you may have a friend that can use it very well, but has no idea what the design should look like. Thats where you could come in - helping in direction. Sometimes a team can do wonders....

Just an idea...

Quick Update... We have had some emails asking if they can hand draw the rendering and then scan it in - and send it digitaly.

We have no problem with that at all. However you can best develop this rendering to win. Maybe that will give some of you a better start at this.

Thought we would share.

Thanks,

Yup... I just sent this to someone I know who is a whizz at photoshop.

Is there any chance of having the winning wheel design go into production?

Of course there is; you are doing their designers work for basically free (the nominal cost of a set of their wheels...).

Man, do we wish it was that easy.... We have tried something similar to that, but in order to put a wheel in production, there are a number of safety issues Privat has to deal with. This can take a lot of time, and lots of tweaking from an original design.

We would love it if it where that easy, but it is not.

This is something fun we have been wanting to do with VWVortex and members. I am sure we will see style trends or preferences, which is always fun.

Great question though. Wish it was that easy.

Have a great day,

So, since this is obviously a wheel company, i'm assuming that we are designing our own rims? Is that correct? Or are we using there existing lineup?

You got it. You are to design your own custom wheel for this project. Nothing that is in the Privat Line right now - http://www.privatwheels.com

Ooo, cool. One last question. If we win the competition, and they end up using our design for a new wheel, can we choose to have those wheels as our "prize"?

As he stated before, there are a LOT of considerations in getting a wheel approved for road use. Its not just... oh hey lets make this crazy wheel.

The winning design will doubtfully be made into a production wheel, but there is always hope.

FYI: I will be doing this by hand as well.

Well Put - idwurks.

In a perfect world we could do it. But it's not very likely... It usually takes a lot of time to develop a new wheel - when dealing with safety etc.

Good question though.

And yeah - it seems like a lot of people are doing this by hand - and then scanning it in.

Should be fun.

We can't wait to see what you guys are up to.

Good Luck!
