Only one car club can boast that their hometown show is held at Volkswagen of America’s headquarters. That exclusive distinction goes to the Michigan Volkswagen Enthusiasts, and the show is MIVE’s annual Motorstadt, held this year on Saturday, June 2. Full Story...

There was an R8 there, for sure. I was working my way down the aisle of Mk.Vs and was going to stop down by the R8 and the two TTs when I got a call from some friends at VW inviting Cherise and me to lunch, so we ran out to grab a bite. By the time we came back, the raffle was going on and I didn't have a chance to finish taking pictures. But there's even more coverage from 00Photo here: http://michiganvw.org/maf/thumbnails.php?album=53 and I'm sure there are plenty of snaps of the R8.

I was very surprised with the All Show award. Wasn't expecting that at all! The new wheels were a big fiasco! It was down to the wire. I got them back from the powder coater on Thursday night. Had the tires mounted Friday morning. Called in sick just to mount the wheels on the car and make sure everything was good to go. Here are some pics...

no VWvortex coverage for it though

i think it was well deserved. your car was one of my personal favorites at the show. More or less anything that has been done to your car has been done with a look and vision in mind and it shows...so...All Show for you sucka. July 15th is the Windsor Border Bash across the river. This is a very fun laid back show as well. I might even say a little more so than our own.

Well, I thank everyone that voted I wasn't expecting it at all. The amount of time put into the project is endless. I am on VWvortex about 5-6 hours a day. It's my second home. I take pride in my project and I make sure that everything turns out as OEM quality as possible. If it isn't up to my standards, it doesn't make it to the car. I will throw a little example out there... The front VW badge....repainted 5 times because I didn't like how it turned out. Repaint meaning sanding off the paint, 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of flat black. Noe once, not twice, not three times, not four times, FIVE TIMES. After the 5th time, it made it on the car. Yes, I am 100% anal retentive. Where exactly is the Windsor Border Bash? Can I pre-register?

Yes sir! We sure do!!!!! I have always wanted to take pictures of my own car rolling down the road but I will never let anyone drive my car. We need to get together. I will let you drive my car while I take pictures out of another. I will take pictures of your car too while you drive it. I don't care how it works out, I just need some really good rolling shots with the new wheels.

We apologize to you and whoever elses' cars we missed. In addition to snapping pics for VWvortex and talking to as many attendees as we could, we were also meeting with colleagues at VW and Audi, catching up with friends, and looking for future feature cars for the site. Two of us, 200 cars, and hundreds more participants in a very busy day; again, we apologize that some cars escaped our camera. I was very impressed by your Jetta, however--the wheels are well worth whatever "big fiasco" you endured. Congratulations.

This was our third year there. No bumrush, VwoA and AoA employees not only help judge the field, some also had personal cars in the show. Come next year!

to VWvortex I wasn't complaining or mad at all. I was just saying that a picture of my car wasn't in the Vortex coverage. I have been a member of VWvortex for almost 6 years now. This place has help tremendously with all of my projects/endeavors. I can't say enough about VWvortex. This is THE VW COMMUNITY! As for the wheels...they were indeed well worth it!

My comment wasn't to slam or diss your show, just that I was amazed that VWOA (a company that openly discourages owners from modifying their cars, and makes a point of not supporting older models) would allow anyone to host a VW show on their grounds, especially a show where modified examples of VW cars might be on display.

Not sure what your basis is for saying this, but Motorstadt is at VWoA every year now. VWoA and Audi USA are both very supportive of the show, not to mention that MIVE is an officially licensed VW club. Steve Neder from VW corporate presented the Manufacturer's Choice award and also repeatedly pointed out to everyone how much they appreciate enthusiast community. I thought his comments were really well done. Come check it out next year!
