The Impreza Outback Sport for 2008« »

I had no idea they were planning on keeping the Impreza Outback Sport for 2008. The new Impreza was just starting to grow on me, then I threw up in my mouth a little at this...

Edit: Moar on CarScoop
http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2....html

Why two-tone, why!?!?!? Not only is it two-tone, but it's just painted with no cladding. How is somebody going to be able to paint match that if you get a dent?

If what they have painted silver were actually plastic cladding, it might look ok. But it is not, and therefore doesn't.

Does anyone even buy these things? I never seem to see them on the road, or for that matter, at the local dealership. Plenty of base Imprezas around here though.

Is this official, or just some custom one-off by an individual? I would have called photoshop on the first pic alone, since it is easy to do with the program, but that second pic threw me.

Nasty.

The Outback Sport has always been just paint, no extra cladding. Actually, by adding that little lip thing, this OBS now has more cladding than any previous OBS.

Agreed. Why didn't they just leave the bumpers unpainted dark gray, do some wheel arch extensions, then match the side-moldings? It would've looked much better...this looks like it was done in some guy's garage.

For comparison, check out the Rover Streetwise:

I've only seen one other crappy cell phone pic before (which looked like this, but blue with silver), but I found these on Flickr when searching for a 2008 Outback to post in another thread. I can't find them on any other website, so I assume maybe somebody was invited to a press event and took some pics. I donno.

It looks to me like its probably not JUST paint. Looks like it might be a chip resistant decal or something... You can see it is a tiny bit higher than the rest of the paint when you look at the reflection, and highlights... That said, it certainly isnt dramatic enough, as it pretty much does look like paint. F***** YUCK!

You can see the surcance change on the front fender here:

You think Subaru would have learnt from the Tribeca.

Now we have to wait a few years for the eventual half-ass facelift that will "fix" the design.

It needs super-duper cladding like this:

Funny that the roof rack seems to be standard (as I've seen it on the blue car too) even though it looks very accessoryish.

There's only one way to do plastic cladding, and that is by actually using real plastic cladding.

That's exactly the same bodywork as the '06-'07 Impreza 2.5i wagon, except, I guess, the rub strips on the doors, which you can probably get as an accessory for the 2.5i. The front bumper and side skirts are exactly the same and the wheelarches are nothing but steel.

I've always hated that "V" grille in the current gen. I think they had it right in 2004. That said, I really like the wheels on this one.
