1992 Mazda Miata, 1985 Schwinn World, 86 Golf diesel parts car

 I'm joining the lemmings.« »

Let's get rule #1 out of the way first.

1992 Mazda Miata, 171,000 miles, cold A/C, power steering, manual windows, aftermarket CD player (original one included,) CAI (original airbox (which I will be installing) included,) a set of steelies, and it runs great.

Left side paint is somewhat faded, due to it being keyed and the whole left side resprayed. Left front fender has bad rust bubbles, but there's no other rust on the car. Rear window is slightly faded - but I'll replace it with a glass window.

Tomorrow, I'll own it for the grand total of $2100.

So, am I now a REAL CL member?

Down near Columbus where he is, the winters aren't so bad. He shouldn't have any big problems.

Only if you put your Kubota diesel in it.

And if you thought you had a hard time getting girls before, now they'll all think you're "not interested" for sure.

First, I may (or may not) put a 2.0L Mazda diesel in it. Leaning towards may not, I'm sorta liking the horsepower here.

Second, I know a woman that... she's been interested in me for a while, and she likes Miatas (she knew I wanted one before she said she liked them, though.)

Time for me to pull a Hawc.

The worst part of the car.

The PO put a CAI on, but gave me the parts to put the stock airbox on - which I think I'll do.

Ghetto cupholder that the PO did... whatever works.

Tiny trunk, lol.

Mmm, pop-up headlights.

Window's somewhat faded.

Does that say "MY IZPO"? Is that your plate, or the PO's?

BTW, when you hit the flash-to-pass, what does it do? IIRC, it doesn't try to pop up the headlights, so does it light up the amber turn signal filaments, or are there extra bulbs under the turn signal lenses?

That's the PO's plate, it doesn't say MY IZPO, and it's not vanity at all.

And, yes, it DOES look like a hot air intake, doesn't it? And, anything in that engine bay is going to get hot. Besides, I'm not a fan of cone type filters - I've seen too many "K&N KILLED MY MAF" threads on TDIClub.

If I do a flash to pass with the lights down, it doesn't do ANYTHING, except light the bright indicator in the cluster.

Apparently, the early Miatas don't have any flash-to-pass, except maybe if you use the button under the dash to raise the headlights without turning them on (for washing them, or to leave them up prior to an ice storm so you won't be left with lights frozen in the "down" position)... but with the "wink" mod the lights will raise when you hit the flash-to-pass and then go back down.

Plus a ton of other electrical mods:

Nice car! I bought the twin to it about a month ago, and have been loving every minute of driving it. Mine's got 88k and is a base model w/tape deck. Il'd like to find one of the OEM CD players, so I don't have to worry about theft.

Plans for mine include an LSD, roll bar, willans harnesses (already have), spec miata suspension package, hardtop, sticky tires, and LOTS of track days

Before you put in a glass window, be aware that most of them are not compatible with most roll bars.

FWIW_ keep good tires on it. I had a 92- my bother has it back now. That thing was a blast- but in the wet the rear end was very light. He did a 180 on an Atlanta interstate one night in the rain- and managed to avoid a collision (dumb luck). Just keep that in mind.

I think it had something to do with the Atlanta road worker's propensity to use metal pates for road repairs. NOTHING grips wet metal in the rain.

Well, I didn't look too closely at the engine bay pics but yes, I suppose you're right. However, I'd be more inclined to install a CAI properly than stick the Mazda airbox on, but I suppose that's personal preference.

Congratulations. I bought mine about 2 months ago. I haven't put it down yet because it's so much fun. I think I've driven my Volvo a total of 4 times since I got it on the road.

Regarding the flash to pass. On my 94 it works like this. When you pull the stalk, the lights pop up and then stay up in case you flash again. If you don't flash again, they go down in a few seconds.

Nonsense.

As long as the glass window is the size of the OEM NB window, and it will be if you buy your top from a reputable source, it will fit with any roll bar that doesn't have a harness bar between the rear supports.

Of all the bars on the market, I think only the Hard Dog Hard Core comes configured this way by default, but Bethania will make you one without a harness bar, or with the harness bar in the main hoop - all you have to do is ask for the "M2" bar.
