A few updates to the basement system« »

Basement system:

I worked hard to get the most out of the limited space.
2/3 of the room is comprised of the a/v gear and six recliners including a 10” riser.
The other 1/3 contains a poker table with comfy leather chairs, a small bar, stools, fridge, mega touch, etc.

• Pioneer VSX-82TXS Elite Receiver.
o Running 7.1.
o Serves as a hdmi hub (no issues with any components, including motorola hd dvr box).
o Running latest firmware: M1.002 F0.503, D1.003 H1.005, F1.004 S1.001 (no hdmi issues).
o Did the "video select + power = +10db ON" mod (to correct LFE issues with hd-dvd audio).
o Thread for firmware and LFE correction: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb...87551

• Front L+R: Paradigm Reference Studio-60 v2

• Center: Paradigm Studio CC-470 v2

• Surrounds: Paradigm Mini Monitor v2

• Subwoofer: Paradigm Reference Servo-15" v2

• A/V Stand: Bello PVS-4260.

• Adcom Power Management.

• Toshiba HD-DVD Player - HD-A3.
o With latest firmware for 1.3 (http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/ta...e.asp)

• Philips 50” Plasma with ambient lighting.

• 21" LG HD flat panel lcd tv. Left of plasma.
o Great for keeping your eye on a big game while watching a movie/xbox/wii.

• 15" Samsung flat panel lcd monitor. Athe bar. Media Center command center. Connects to Xbox. Networked PC hidden under bar.

• Xbox 360 (rgb).
o Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel from Microsoft. I play Forza2.
o Table for ^: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.co...73067
 It folds, tilts, height adjustable. But the best parts: it can slide under your chair, the front is fully open, it can go over your lap. And it's only $30.
o Rock Band for Xbox 360. Guitar, drums, mic.
o Added an extra (Guitar Hero) Guitar so we can have 4 players. Excellent for parties.
o GSP39WB Wallmount Guitar Hangers – Short, from Hercules Stands.

• Nintendo Wii (rgb). All we play is Sports for the most part. Great for entertaining.
o Wii Fit. Sports. Play.

• A few acoustic panels are still just sitting on the floor. However, I can hear a decent improvement with them.

• Old school ‘Merit Industries’ - Mega touch in the back area.

• Electronic dart board. I added some lighting for it.

• Six recliners. Rears on 10" carpeted riser, with lighting.

• The black wall mount cabinet, six doors. Great way to organize your gaming software and controllers. From Ikea. Believe it.

• Remote control dimmer. More info in a thread from earlier this year http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb...32333

• Harmony Remote. Which may just be, the coolest thing in the room! Controls lighting which is cool.

Future projects:

o Projector
 Most likely the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080p Projector. Model #: EPS V11H245120.
 I am not set on this projector.
 But I hear great things about it. It’s around $2100. And comes with an extra bulb, and ceiling mount.

o Screen
 Carada 92” Screen will be the perfect size for this room.
 1.78:1 Criterion Series with Brilliant White, including shipping for $730.22, and yes that does include the Criterion framing.
 Again, not set on this. Thoughts?
 Notes: the height of my current Bello stand is great for our room since we play a lot of Rock Band. How will this effect location of the 92” screen.
• Front row of seating will be moved to approx 12’ from wall.

Come on Down......

Downstairs pics updated, thanks for everyone's responses.
Switching gears, the upstairs system is simple and unobtrusive (for the most part).
I am forced to locate the plasma above the fire place.
There is a great forest in the backyard. Between nature, and the fireplace itself, I don’t want my back to this wall.
• Denon receiver running 3.1
• Sony upconvert dvd with hdmi
• Boston Acoustic speakers
• Philips 42" plasma with ambient lighting
• Motorola HD DVR calbe box

Future projects:
• Relocate the 42” to the bedroom.
• Move the 50” from the basement to the living room.

I like your downstairs setup a lot.

My $0.02

Not a huge fan of the TV above the fireplace. I always think fireplaces should be the centerpiece in a living room. A TV above it makes the wall look cluttered. The components in front of the window also take away from the room.

I think your HT setup would be better suited against the wall to the right of the fireplace.

Of course, its hard for me to see how that would work from just those pictures.

In the theater room, what is your logic for where you chose to place the acoustic panels?

I agree with vw86gti, the stuff in your living room is really, really unattractive in the space.

panels, no logic right now. they're just sitting there for now.

Is that because you don't know how to place them, or because you don't care? The one between the first and second rows is basically useless. I would put one on the side wall right next to the left speaker, and the other two on the front wall between the speakers and the tv.

The most effective place for acoustic absorption is at the first reflection points- the walls and ceiling where the sound bounces off from the speaker and then gets to your ears. The easiest way to determine these locations is just to sit in the primary seating area, and move a large mirror along the wall until you can see your speakers in the mirror.

Meh I still can't wait to kick his ass at NHL 2008, sorry him and his friends. Canada vs usa I'll feel even better knowing he's sitting in those comfy chairs hahaha

He's just too afraid to schedule a time or doesn't want to cry in front of his friends.

VERY good question. It took me forever to find this perfect table. it's a bed bath beyone, as seen on tv, tv stand for dinners. it folds, tilts, height adjustable. But the best parts: it can slide under your chair, the front is fully open, it can go over your lap! And it's only $20.

Use the steering wheel clamp. No need for anything else! Flawless.

I have a quick question for you. I have been looking for a bar set up like the one that you have but haven't had to much luck. I like the way that yours looks from the one pic. and seems like it would work with the space that I have. Can you tell me where you purchased it from. Love the basement set up by the way.

Suggested improvements, can't think of any, except to lower the basement tv about six inches. Other than that, awesome work.

I'll test that out. It's easy to adjust the height. so far the height is working well, considering all the gaming we do. especially for rockband, since we're dancing around, i mean standing

and thanks

Cool. I checked out some of the things that they have online but they don't have much posted on the web page. I'm def. gonna check them out though. It's about an hour and half out from me. Are they pretty reasonable price wise and how is the quality?

I really like your setup. The one thing that I love the most are your theatre seats~ I've been wanting to get some for my theatre room but I'm currently saving money to get my XBOX 360 and HDDVD player.

At first, I was going to suggest a bigger screen because you have a fairly large theatre room. But then I read that you were going to upgrade the TV with a projector. That's a good call.

As far as the TV above the fireplace, I think it's a great idea. Some people might disagree but I think your setup looks very clean

With regards to your projector screen /stand qestion I have a 24" high av gear tv stand setup temporarily (till I buy a house) and find that about 26" off the ground is where I want the bottom of my 92" screen considering that I sit fairly far back.

Going off the specs on your TV stand 8+8+7ish comes out to 23" so you'll be fine imo especially since you have a 2 channel setup.

If you decide to go 5.1 or 7.1 (or whatever) you will want to consider mounting the center on top of the screen angled at the listening positon OR moving the whole AV setup off to the side or behind you somewhere.

I find all the AV equipment lights and things distracting when watching tv.

I just played Rock Band this past weekend with the full instrument set too! Some of the most fun I've had in a looonnngg time.

p.s Your entire setup is amazing and I know I've commented on it before, but I love that A/V Stand. Can't wait to have my own house one day where I can design my own room.

These are from IKEA aren't they?

Also, is the reel art on the all painted iron? I think we have a pair of martini glasses from the same guy, we got them at a craft fair.

TY mate, I lived in west goshen for a while.
I am going to address the projector issue mid 09.
I didn't think I had the length in the room, but so many people are pushing me for it.
Good thing is, I can push the seating back about 10" or so before maxing out.
And thanks.

Wouldn't the centre channel sound better if you moved it up to the top shelf (and then moved the XBox, cable box down a shelf). I'm thinking that the tweeter would be closer to ear level and you'd have less of its output absorbed into the carpet.

I tried, I agree with your for two reasons - sound and presentation. but it's too large. It's so large that it really doesn't matter where it is. Once the receiver does it's programming (with mic), it's amazing.

A profile shot would show you the reason it won't fit. You can see it sticks out further than the deck above it. It's such a heavy center, that I can't put it on a shelf unless it has complete support. that next deck is too shallow... in fact the stupid new ginormous comcast hd boxes don't fit either.

I'll add that in this photo, you get a feel for why the tv is set-up so high. its brilliant for gaming. someone wanted me to lower the tv. but when i'm reclined it's comfy. and when we're gaming, it's great.
