He's actually a bit of a motor head. Everything from various race-built BMWs, to 350z. He's got a good bit of car lounge in him.

Give the guy a chance and see how he does on the actual show before complaining that it's a bad choice.

His 510 was detailed a couple years back in Grassroots.

Definitely a car guy, so maybe the show will be good? No Clarkson/Hammond/May though.

Me, too.

I said in an earlier thread that he has horrible stage presence... but then so did James May in the beginning.

At least it's not some B-list ****** with no knowledge of cars.

I actually find this to be somewhat reassuring and comforting.

One problem with big celebrities is big celebrity paychecks. I imagine they'll have one big celebrity like Jay Leno, and two not as expensive hosts.

Looks like I'm somewhat right. I'm still guessing Leno would be the main guy, Carolla would be #2 or #3.

FWIW, I think he's a good guy for it. Funny, quick whitted, and good taste in cars. From what I remember from an older episode of Loveline, he has an M3 and an XJR...prolly different now.

You just know the US version will try to inject too much humor in that show (especially Carolla's), make it into bite sized chunks of mindless entertainment (maybe throw in a couple of celebrities), and generally suck

It's going to fail because NBC will refuse to have any negative remarks said about sponsors and then everyone will start bitching about how crappy the show is and that its so biased and then they'll cancel it after one season because ratings will be through the floor. I'd love to see it succeed but with NBC behind it I don't think it's gonna be a great show...I mean just look at how much of a piece of trash the Knight Rider TV movie was.

My grandma makes awesome mashed potatoes. She uses chicken broth, butter, salt, and they're a little lumpy. They're delicious.

My mom makes awesome mashed potatoes. She uses red potatoes, a little bit of sour cream and cheddar cheese, and even milk sometimes. They're delicious.

Are they made by the same person? no.
Are they exactly the same? no.
Are they both delicious? yes!

It seems that some people are thinking this should be exactly like the British version, but different != worse. It may not be the same as the Clarkson/Hammond/May version across the pond, but it has potential to become a completely different show that is still just as entertaining but in different ways. I think Adam Carolla could make it interesting

Everybody, before we start ragging on the US Top Gear before its even filmed, lets look at the bright side. There will always be UK Top Gear. In the very least, US-TG can replace Fifth Gear to hold you over in-between seasons.

Hah. I could be mistaken, but I believe he as a turbo E30 M3. Many moons ago he talked about it on Loveline. I believe he was setting it up for road course.

What rock have you been hiding under? This is the way of the CL; before something even happens, the CL knows it to be full of fail. Curiousity is shucked out like an oyster and replaced with "all-knowing of all that is fail" when you sign up. As long as you have been around, I am surprised you don't know this

Exactly. And though I hate to admit it, I watch half the garbage on SPEED just because I'm a car guy (with the exception of NASCAR). Hell, I even watch NOPI Tunervision and Unique Whips just to p*ss myself off. If I can put up with those shows to feed my car needs, I can handle a US 'Top Gear'.

It could certainly be worse. I'm not a Carolla hater, so if this show ever comes out, I'll definitely check out an episode. It will be interesting to know who else will be on the show now.

NBC is behind the American adaptation of "The Office". Based on that show's track record, I'd say that NBC is pretty good at transfering British programming into American homes! Before you cry about NBC ruining Knightrider, you should probably know that NBC produced the original series. Moreover, the original series was not Masterpiece Theater.

This has NBC's The Office written all over this. Take a witty british show and tweak it for a different audience, and come out with a very good show.

Now that's not what I actually think, because I'm going to save my opinion until I actually get to see the show, and the only thing I've seen him on is the man show. But hopefully you get the point.

carolla and clarkson are basically the same person.

both are as follows.

-outspoken blowhards.
-atypical car guys
-middle age men with ugly hair
-comedians
-they speak from their hearts. if they don't like it, you will know.

i think hes a great choice. with that being said, i feel like the show will do ok for a season but will fail. i feel like clarkson is top gear and i don't know if people will respond to an "american" version.

lets hope it does ok though cause it would be better than most automotive programming on tv today.
