Yes Martha, you can get your new 2010 Toyota 4Runner with a 4-cylinder. As long as it's 2WD. And as long as it's with an old 4-speed automatic.

Great, first Acura makes the new TSX look boring, then Mazda screws this one up.

I work across the street from Mazda R&D here in Cali.... I almost want to walk across the street and knock on the door and ask "What the heck were you thinking?".

(there have been Mazda 6 mules running around there for the past year tool)

Ew. Why in hell did they do that to it? It's like Mazda North America consciously fugged it up.

Good example of how some simple tweaks can collectively add up to a much less appealing design. Similar lines, same platform, but very different final products. To use a crude example, it's a bit like two sisters; you can see a little bit of mom and dad in each of them, and they're very clearly sisters. Only, one's smoking hot and the other not so much.

It looks bloated compared to the current one. Mazda effed this one up pretty good.

Edited to add: No manual for the V6, no hatchback or wagon....wtf??? It's like they're taking everything that was good and different about the original Mazda6 and taking a big dump on it. It's really a frustrating sign of things to come for this Mazda fan

I will admit when I walked up to it the front end is bigger than the last one, but I think they are on par with the competition in terms of sizing. Most cars these day's are not getting any smaller.

I understand, I just think Mazda succeeds when it does things a little differently from the competition. I should probably withold my judgement, but I can't help but be dissapointed by the apparent direction its NA affiliate is taking.

The current 6's size (or lack therof) is the reason it has not been very successful in the US and the reason they always had 2500-4000 on the hood to move them. Compared to the Camry, Altima and Accord of the same gen's the 6 was tiny and families werent having it.

Or maybe it's the fact that the current 6 has been around since 2002. The 6 has been a whole lot more succesful than the old (and dull) 626. Mazda has to offer something different than the Camrys and Altimas of this world, look at the success of the 3 vs Civic/Corolla for an example of the right approach.

Been seeing these every day lately, and it's DEFINITELY a huge step up over the current 6. I think the old 6 looks pretty boring and stale in comparison.

Yeah...the Civic and Corolla outsell the 3.

And the 6 struggled against even the previous generation of the Camry and Altima.

Ofcourse they outsell the 3, Mazda is a much smaller company. The 3 did substantially cut into their market share. How? By being different (and in many ways, better).

Forward inboard section of the headlamps drop off and down too early - they should have been stretched more forward to fit the "cutout" area more. They need a sport version with a more aggressive lower front fascia too. The rest of the car looks decent with a very nice interior imo.

No 5 door or wagon is a bad move imo as more people look (are financially forced...LOL!) to downsize out of SUV's in the USA.

Any more details you can tell us about this car? Looks like a 4-cylinder GT to me. Does it have Xenon headlights and LED taillights? Adjustable headrests for the rear seats? Push button start?

I'm surprised that they changed the exhaust for the 4-cylinder from dual exhaust in the 1st gen to a single exhaust with dual tips.

Is it their goal to be small, though? Why can't Mazda sell just (or nearly) as many by offering such a good car that's so competitively priced? I don't get it. I hope the next 3 can sell more while being just as excellent; Mazda deserves the same name recognition Honda's gotten for decades (it'd help if car mags gave it the same subjective praise they give Honda/BMW).
