 VWvortex - Volkswagen's New Scirocco« »

Volkswagen has unveiled the production version of the new Scirocco. However this new model will *NOT* be coming to the U.S. at this point since VWoA feels the car is too similar in form to the GTI.

Cool! I'm not in the market for something like this, but can see that it is quite similar to the GTI. I'm sure others will feel we should get it though.

*sigh* Just a bit too much of this thing in the nose for me to be able to like it.

Everywhere else it's a slick looking car. Just that nose. Is this a look forward to the mk6 cars?

Not bad but I liked some of the more original drawings that were posted. They could of made it RWD or AWD so it could of been different than the GTI.

IMHO I think that if it had a Peugeot badge on it people wouldn't question it...and that's not a complaint, it just makes me think of a more contemporary 206. Call me crazy...but it all boils down to 2 simple facts:

for the North American market, yes, it doesn't make sense to offer it *and* the GTI as they're both 2 door hatches, simply put

but....

it's still a big loss...it's got a distinctive look that I'm sure would sell here...I think it would compete strongly with the Japanese imports.

if anyone ever says "what's the point of this if we have the GTI" again, I'll punch them in the face.
For one, it's definitely cooler IMO than the MKV GTI.
Seems smaller and sportier.
Has it's own distinct look and harks back to originality in VW's design - the "ugly but grows on you/makes you love it" thing is a personal fave trait of mine that VW has.
Panoramic Sunroof FTW.

Those reasons alone are enough for me.

Agreed, but it would make it a lot more expensive and it seems like VW is trying to make a sports car at more affordable price. Maybe they will do an R version?

I'd like to see some reviews of how it drives.

meh.
it has its plusses and minuses.
it looks cool but i must agree that i am disappointed that it did in fact end up looking like another version of the GTI. hatchbacks are cool but come on VW, i think everyone has had enough and what we really crave is a coupe.
the interior is nice, and i like the way the front end looks, but i'm just over hatchbacks for the most part.....

Pretty interesting when VWV has to put up a disclaimer because they don't like it either.

Seems to me that this is what the MKV Golf/Rabbit should have been.

Again, VW disappoints. I wish all those A-holes at VAG would pull their respective heads out of each others A-holes and do something right for a change, but after 30 years of it, I guess I shouldn't hold my breath any longer....

they should definitely bring it over

if they're worried about hurting the gti sales then bring it in a limited number and jack the price up a little

i'm sure there'd be quite a few people who would def get one regardless of price

On its own...I really like it. But because there is a Golf already in VW's lineup, Im not sure it was the right idea. I know a lot of people will say that it has the performance of what the Scirocco brought back then, but couldn't they have made something look more unique and resemble a Scirocco? It couldn't hurt to try. All they had to do was to increase the angle of the back end slope, smooth it out somewhat and give it a longer hatch. Then i guess some people would call it a VW "Insight"....oh well.

I was also hoping that the nose would look more like the Iroc's. I definitely like the rest. My Jetta goes back in 2009, and I was hoping to BUY a VW after - not just LEASE one. I guess I have 2 more years in which I can only hope that someone will change their mind, and bring it to our shores ...

haha, i love how the editor starts the article off with his own opinion on it. I know emotions are high and som people are disappointed, but I think its worth giving people a shot of their opinions before voicing his so blatantly in the beginning of the article.

anyway, cool lookign car. but then isn't this another golf with a wider body and lower stance? if true, what's the point? why does the same as gti mentality only apply to the US and not the rest of europe or asia?

and why, not make a car that is truely a sports car.. as in a smaller car. my only gripe with my gti now is its size. way too large.

Unfortunately they don't want to listen to us the consumer over here in the US. They keep asking what should they do different. We answer them and still they do not listen. We all know the Polo would have done great over here.

Oh well.
