DIY short-shift kit and weighted shift rod« »

so i got bored the oterh day and made myself a short-shift kit out of some angle-iron and a weighted shift rod out of an old bike peg and used nuts for extra weight on the inside of the peg. they turned out awesome and work great too. here r some pics of the finished product.

Yeah, I was considering the same, but instead I was going to get some big washers and slide them onto the rod and weld the washers in place to create the weight.

the short shift is 1" longer. cut the stock one, and weld in a 1" strip.

find a MKIII that has a weighted shift rod

welding extra metal onto the existing piece is a good option but i didnt have access to a welder at the time so i used what i had. looks cleaner when its only 1 piece of metal too

yea a MKIII weighted shift rod would be the "easiest" way to go...but where is the fun in that?

that one inch makes a pretty noticeable difference. Dan j reed did the same thing to his mk3 and i think he said it was over an inch reduction in shifter throw
