That's impressive power from a 4cyl, but it's not really uncommon for drag cars to make that kind of HP in turbo applications.

It's not that high for V8s or cars running huge shots of juice, but for a 4cyl it's ridiculous.

It is, I was just saying that AMS is known for their great reliability. Obviously, 630awhp is much different than 1000+, but I was just making the point that this isn't some hack job. Here's a great video of their TA car in action. Running out of gear at VIR ftw

Yes but what are the flow characteristics of the turbo and the related componentry?

It's an impressive mertic but without context it's just a number.

I'd imagine that engine was built top to bottom to handle the pressure and the turbo is in it's sweet spot coming off the 50+ peak.

AMS is located right up the street from me

any car they have a hand in is not a hack job car
every time i go to their shop something ridiculous is going on. cf roof swaps, working on the time attack car, etc..

the guys are awesome guys and are cool as hell, and they build incredible machines

RPM's?

Exactly... I was just wondering how high that engine (assuming it is in the 2.0-2.5l range) would have to rev to push a turbo that size to 51 PSI.

I thought I recognized that car. It's from that July 2007 SCC article where five modified Evos try to hit the 1000hp mark (I have this magazine in my bathroom stack). In that dyno test the AMS Evo was running an AMS "race" 4G63 2.11 L engine with a Cosworth head and AMS GT42R turbo pushing 48psi-

Here is the story:

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.....html

I actually started a thread here on that Pizza delivery Evo in that article.

And I think these cars are cool. I posted the Pizza evo because he actually drive it regularly as a pizza delivery car (but not when tuned for the most dyno power- no nitrous). One of those Evo blew up on the drive home- which shows how fragile these such highly tuned cars can be. One instance of low fuel pressure causing a lean burn can cause a major issue on such highly tuned engines.

the blocks crack. you'd be more likely to pull it off with a 2.8 24v.
the drivetrains wont take it either, as there's too much casing flex after around 550 ft/lb tq.
