 Subaru vs. Toyota, 134mph head on.« »

Kid drives 134mph in his Subaru Impreza WRX? and crashes head-on into a 60 year old woman's Toyota Avalon.

http://www.fredericknewspost.c...75073

Whats amazing is the after accident pictures. It looks like you could walk away from the Impreza, the occupant compartment looks 100 percent intact compared to the Avalon. Yikes.

The rest of the pics can be found here

Not for nothing, but it looks like the Subaru took the collision head-on while the Avalon was hit at sort of a 3/4 angle. Still impressed by the Subaru's integrity.

Agreed. Unfortunately the only one dead is the innocent 60 year old grandmother in the Avalon.

Which is strange. How can one car hit fully and only hit part of the front of the other car? That doesn't make sense.

"Head on" crashes are rarely completely square impacts. The Subaru was probably a bit "out of control" at impact, resulting in some odd angle. How else can you explain the Subaru's mainly across the front but heavier on the passenger side damage to what appears to be just driver side damage to the Toyota. I do wonder why we only get a pic of the damaged side of the Toyota......

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Never crossed my mind. I figured they would have mentioned alcohol or drug impairment if that was the case. Why do they have to mention that?

What the heck does street racing have to do with some idiot driving way too fast to show off his ride and loosing control? People sure don't have to be street racers to do that.

Journalism standard practice. The first question in most people's mind when told of an accident, particularly a fatal one where one driver is clearly at fault, is "was he/she drunk?"

You know, I have heard of and seen numerous types of collisions from stupidity. Now, these collisions I am talking about are people young and/or old speeding or driving recklessly. That being said, I seem to see that its the offender that goes unscathed. Yet the innocent person in the other vehicle normally serious injury or death

To answer the offset question, the Subaru could have hit the Avalon in such a way that the Front Left corner of the Avalon hit dead-center on the Subarua (possible if the Subie was exiting a corner or on a slight bend and experiencing understeer..)

This is a sad story, and the journalists make it so painful to read.. Score +1 to another "Street Racing" label being thrown at a typical morans who would have been just as dangerous in a 64 Fairlane or a 99 Metro..

The author was simply relaying what the family member said. If the family member had a more touching or effecitve way of expressing his grief, you can bet your TCL username and password the journalist would have picked it over the birdfeeder thing.

And for the record, it was the family, NOT the journalist, that invoked the term "street racing".

Didn't anyone notice his age? 29. You would think by the time your nearing the big Three-Oh, you would know better than to try and top out your car on a public road. He had to have been speeding for a while too, 134mph in a car that takes almost 16 seconds to get to 100 means that he was probably going flat out for a mile +.

Lazy reporting is when reporters cater to existing social stereotypes.

SUV = bad fuel economy. Let's show a big domestic SUV in the background.
Small cars = good fuel economy. Let's show an import economy car in the background.
Ford = fire and recall.
Import = innovative.
Speed related crash = street racing.
Alcohol in driver's blood = evil person that deserves to be stoned to death regardless of the crash information and even if their driving actions were no worse than most drivers, or even better than many.

etc.

That's what I can't get over. It's one thing for a 16 year old to be utterly stupid (even though that doesn't excuse them from killing others), but for a 29 year old? He deserves to go away for the full 10 years. 18 months locked up and 18 months home confinement isn't going to teach that idiot anything.

Thank your politicians that force mandatory minimums for drug related crimes while simultaneously refusing to give funding for added prisons. The results are over crowded prisons full of drug related while people that really hurt or killed somebody else get off with short sentences.

Yeah, after 25, every man should trade in his sports car for a beige Camcord and go no more than 5 mph over the speed limit. It's a good thing cars like the Corvette, 911's and GT-R are marketed to teenagers, or they wouldn't sell a single car to us speed averse near 30-somethings.

To prevent such retardation, they should put 80 mph speed limiters on all cars, along with H-rated tires.
