1.8T Engine Cover | « » 9:00 AM 7-29-2008 | |
|
The plastic "Lawn Mower" factory cover is meant to dampen noise from the engine for Sunday drivers. It also hides the real look of your turbocharged engine and keeps the cylinders soaked in heat. The Craven Speed 1.8t Engine Cover gives the piping hot engines a little bit of breathing room. It also gives the car some audible power. ________ jackspar. Arizona Treatment Centers

Or run no cover and buy 4-5 gallons of race gas. Why do you need a cover anyways?

i got the 034 cover / heatshield because it was less then two inches from my coil pack wiring to my turbine housing. In fact, I had to grind the cover a little bit to clear the turbine housing lol. It should keep the radiant heat at bay- that other abomination, however... omg is it ever ugly You could at least CLEAN the engine before taking product photos, lol.

Possibly more amusing: "1.8t Stick" http://cravenspeed.com/index.p...b14fc "Patent Pending" Apparently they are patenting a dip stick. OH: Here's another good one
light weight power plug- plug? The best part is, they sell it in aluminum. Ya, lets jam this piece of aluminum into a 12v socket, brilliant. Also claiming you are replacing a tiny piece of plastic with a bigger piece of aluminum and somehow that reduces weight--- ftw. http://cravenspeed.com/index.p...b14fc Basically, browse their website if you are bored and want to be amused.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize they sell a replacement fuel rail for $250. That'll give you, lets see... zero HP. That site is the biggest piece of crap I've seen in ages. A MBC that you have to adjust like my $5 special? Yours for the low, low price of $90. It looks prettier too.

I ditched my cover about a week after ownership. I also plan to coat the cover, right now it's embarrasingly dirty, like the blinged-out pics on the Craven site.

Whaaat? Of course he knows. But if you are in here, perusing the 1.8T technical forums, there certainly isn't much need for a cheap plastic engine cover any longer. I personally love the 034 "cover"/shield. But then it's more teutonic than even the original. Although I must say the valvetrain and injector noise is much greater with no hood seal, no hood insultion, or engine cover....

Yeah, I'm aware that you claim it's for heat rejection away from the coils. How hot does the sealed space from the valve cover to inside the spark plug bore in the head get? lol It's funny, the older my car gets, the longer the parts that usually fail end up lasting. I'm on my 2nd primary o2 sensor ever and I'm at 188K miles. I haven't blown a coil in like a year and a half either. I guess I don't need an engine cover.
