This article shows why some of us REALLY miss the short-lived, but terrific magazine Motor Trend Classic. Getting silly, in a smart way, is rare in automotive publishing today. Editors and journalists take everything WAY too seriously. They should take a lesson from Angus McKenzie's POV, IMO.

Aerodynamics geeks...enjoy!

Amazing that the Impala has less coefficient of drag than the Beetle. I'd expect the Beetle to have a lot of lift, but to do it with little drag.

In aerodynamics, appearances are all too often very deceiving. It's one of the things that makes the science so interesting.

I really miss Motor Trend Classic.

The only equivalents seem to be the expensive British magazines whose names escape me right now.

Cool post Larry! I've never heard of the magazine, but now I wish I had.

And something about those pictures of the Impala in the wind tunnel is so damn cool! I'm not afraid to admit, when I opened the page, I saw that top picture and thought "now how could I get that photo blown up to hang on my living room wall?"

Classic Cars and Classic & Sports Car? Both good!

Although, I think Motor Trend Classic is still the magazine that I've enjoyed the most per-page

Motor Trend Classic was twice the magazine as the Brit-rags for half the price.

With the current interest in 1959 Chevrolet safety issues in another thread, I figured why not let this old chestnut ride its coattails awhile. It's weird enough to be pretty interesting.

At the number for the Tatra T77!! 0.22Cd. That's better then any production car on the road today IIRC! The "best" are around 0.25-0.28 range.

Herren Jaray and Ledwinka used the aero advantages of rear-engine placement to full advantage. No gaping maw of an opening in the nose to admit cooling air, and then have it all backed-up inside the engine compartment with nowhere to go. Engineer/designers like them had so much latitude to think freely back then; so many things hadn't been tried yet, so they weren't encumbered by any "oh you can't try THAT" finger-wagging from here there and everywhere...they just went ahead and followed their imaginations. That's why I love the 1930s when it comes to automobiles best of all.
