Ingolstadt – For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ.
AutoWeek had something about this in last week's print magazine. I was wondering how much more real it was than the rumors that have been floating around the ALMS series paddock this season. According to AutoWeek, the car will use the V10.
Also, cross-posted from Ten-Tenths Racing via our Audi Sport forum, Frank Biela's been doing the testing on this thing, so he is still working for Audi Sport. Also, considering Audi Sport's project naming strategy, R16 is the project name for this and R14 was the most recent DTM car so there's a project in-between. This could mean the R10 replacement will be dubbed R15.
Man, you think it'd do okay with the Gas situation and all. People seem to care less and less about cars every year. I can't wait til 2025 and car shopping will be as exciting as toaster shopping. (No offense to anyone that gets psyched about toaster shopping.)
