Event Coverage: Volkswagen Group of America Herndon, VA Headquarters Grand Opening« »

A grand opening on September 19 of the Volkswagen Group of America’s new corporate headquarters in Herndon, Virginia was a signal in ways literal and figurative that the German corporation’s American business is on the move. “America is the most demanding car market, stated Volkswagen Group Chairman of the Board of Management Dr. Martin Winterkorn. “To take a line from Frank Sinatra,” he continued, “If we can make it (in the USA), we can make it anywhere,” and that’s just what he and his American team led by Stefan Jacoby plan on doing.

Long shot. But I'm hoping for the same.

Nice to see the company actually making moves. Wish I could have caught that TDI Cup race at VIR.

Anyone know if it's worth stopping by Herndon for a look around? Did they move the "museum" there?

Small complaint, but the article wording was a little awkward in places.

europe gets everything first, not just vw cars but everything else.

plus fuel cost a whole lot more over there, and people dont buy big motor cars like here. insurance depends on the size of engine, so most people buy the smallest engine possible.

There is this building down a ways on sunrise valley which I thought was going to be the VW HQ -- It looks just like the corporate style for the dealer network. It was a couple weeks later when they released the address of the new building that I found the one pictured above. -- Its kind of hidden behind a shopping complex and a bunch of apartments.

They picked a good spot for the new HQ, if you ask me though. Its across the toll road from Reston, so its not so packed with people, yet it is right behind the above mentioned commercial center, which is an extremely nice one.

Fixed!

They HAD aspirations to compete way up market.

Absolutely... a nice fancy new building is wonderful, but it was more important to provide the US marketplace with a wider selection of models and trim lines. And make sure the dealers are providing CUSTOMER SATISFACTION especially when it comes to SERVICE competence!

That area blows traffic is a nightmare. I bet they sell a lot of spare body parts in that area due to accidents, way too many cars on really crap roads RT 95 is beyond it's capacity 10 fold. What was wrong with the old place in Auburn hills anyway? This place will have less cold, less snow.

It would be nice to have a full museum at the new Head Quarters.
