 Volkswagen sales for Sept« »

VOLKSWAGEN REPORTS SEPTEMBER 2008 SALESHERNDON, Va.— Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced September 2008 sales of 17,109 units, a 9.4 percent decrease over the September 2007 sales of 18,891 vehicles. On a year-to-date basis, 2008 Volkswagen sales are 0.2 percent ahead of 2007 sales through September.

“This is the toughest economy we’ve seen in a long time” said Mark Barnes, COO, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “We’re extremely pleased that we are still ahead of last years sales. With the arrival of our all-new luxurious CC and our seven passenger minivan, Routan, which are arriving in dealerships now, combined with our other new products launched earlier this year, such as our 50-state compliant clean diesel Jetta TDI, we see opportunity to continue to grow our business.”

Demonstrating that customers are looking for better fuel economy choices, the all-new Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI continue to sell as fast as dealers get them in. 2008 has been a big year for Volkswagen new product launches, with five new vehicles launched, including the Jetta SportWagen, Jetta TDI, Tiguan, Routan and CC.

I'm actually surprised the thirsty Touareg hasn't taken a bigger beating. The rabbit makes sense though as there was a major glut in production from Germany, and the NB/NBC is simply outdated. The Passat though, ouch

With Rabbit sales down 37%, is this a result of them stopping production for the year until the new MK VI Rabbit/Golf goes into production? I remember a thread about them halting production of the current platform in the fall or something.

Sounds typical of VW.

It is very hard to find any Rabbit at any dealer over my way; strange considering all of the good press that car has gotten. You'd think they would have kept a few around to close out the month.

Now, it will take three months to get the new ones on the lots.

And FWIW, the Beetle is still a decent car. Drop in a small four (or a TDI) and you've got a great fuel economy leader. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Whoever plans these changeovers should be shot.

It seemed that there was talk earlier this year (or last) that the Rabbit was going to be dropped for the US and that we'd only get the GTI. Whatever became of that? This wouldn't make sense. Did Winterkorn change his mind?

All things considered, though, it's still amazing to actually still be UP .2% over last year in this volatile economy.

Does anyone have a clue how many TDIs were sold? VW doesn't break that out, but I have to believe that's what behind the 3% upswing in Jetta sedan sales in an otherwise very down month.

If I'm reading this correctly, VW has sold 3,782 R32s so far and they've been on lots for nearly a year and a half.

Ouch. The MkIV was mostly gone from lots in about a year, IIRC.

now many r32's are being sold to dealers in canada and they're asking about 50k for them

Of course this is since canada finally updated its bumper laws making the r32 admissible in canada. My local dealer has 3 brand new ones!

Don't hold your breath, Last couple/few months Month Mazda has been doing 0% interest rates which has been helping them move cars really well.

VW is on a number of those models on the trailing edge of models so its not too surprising and the Jetta / Wagon is probably being shoved up by the new TDI .

You're not reading it correctly. The 2007 YTD number was as of the end of September last year. Checking last December's results shows they sold 1756 last year. Add 2790 YTD for 2008, and they've sold 4546 of the available 5000.

It took over a year for them to sell out Judging by how the economy is going and gas prices and also the "OMG its DSG only, burn it with fire!!!"...I think its doing pretty good.
