I'd Really Love To Go For A Sunday Afternoon Ride In A.....« »

Buick with a straight-8 engine. Hellifino why, but today is cool and sunny, and just the thought of taking a nice, leisurely drive with my wife through some autumn country lanes in a smooth and handsome big Buick, and finishing-up with a stop at Dairy Queen, just like my mom and dad used to when I was a kid, sounds really appealing. In the current time, wouldn't a nice "stress-reducer" like this be a tonic for the soul?

What would you like to take a relaxing, UN-stressful Sunday ride in?

I trust it this || much more than an MG, especially with all of the MSVs whipping around these days.......

Thanx for the nice first-response. I probably should stipulate that we are NOT concerned with SPEED in this thread. Your obvious compliance by nominating a TR3 is appreciated.

Good thread Larry. I would really like to travel to Maryland to see the leaves change and take a drive into Western Maryland in the 1949 MG TC that my father owned while I was in high school. Granted, the car was the slowest post WWII vehicle I have ever driven but its' direct steering feel and nimbleness is something that everyone should experience.

This isn't the car in question (it was sold before the days of digital pictures) but it is a close proximity:

'55 Thunderbird. White. Continental kit. Shiny but not "perfect" chrome. No top. Burbly exhaust but slow due to the tranny= perfect cruiser.

edit: That MG will do JUST fine....beautiful.

To be honest, I would love to take a nice leisurely Sunday drive in just about anything. Working all day every Sunday for the last 5 years is getting old.

However I'd prefer anything with a convertible top, and I don't even like convertibles.

When I was a kid though, my parents had a new (at the time) Le Baron convertible, I think it was a 94. I remember being in love with that car. (Hey, I was 9 ) and I remember driving around by the beach and then going to get ice cream. That sounds like a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon right about now

I don't know why I get a since of "Back to School" or Fall nostalgia from these things. For some reason they remind me of this time of year, falling leaves, crisp air, pumpkin patches, and cozy family dinners.

an... Ariel Atom. It doesn't have to be a fast drive. The feeling of being exposed to the elements can be easily appreciated at cruise speeds and the car gets a lot of attention in the city.

Nice. I'd love to sit in the back and read the Sunday Trib while my chauffeur drives me up Michigan Ave, then the inner drive and through Lincoln Park.

Sentimentality is a weakness of mine in my old age. My grandma owned a 1956 Pontiac Star Chief coupe (almost exactly like the one below) for many years, and on our frequent trips to visit her when I was a kid, we always took "after Sunday school rides" in her car, usually during the late afternoon or early evening when the air was cooler (central Illinois in the summer...HOT). I often think of those pleasant "rides to nowhere" that almost everybody took back in the sixties, just for the fun of it, to see the sights and just get out of the house for awhile. The ice cream at the end of the ride (Tastee Freeze...yummmmm) was the payoff for us kids.

My typical drive was down Clark St to LaSalle, and follow LaSalle to Monroe, Monroe to State, and amble back north. Yesterday I saw a guy in a white Silver Cloud I and felt another pang of regret. I really should have kept that Rolls.

Sadly, it was just such a leisurely run where someone ran a red light and plowed into it, prompting me to sell it.
