That hierarchy may have changed since the A3 update added Magnetic Ride as an option.

I'd be very interested to see a handling comparison between a GTI and an A3 with MR. I predict that the A3 would handle better. If that is the case, then there shouldn't be much of a performance difference between the Scirocco and A3. There would of course still be the significant price difference, but the A3 does make up for some of that with its nicer interior and premium badge.

I agree my evaluation was from yesteryear.

Then again, both the Scirocco and the MkVI GTI also offer DCC. In addition, the MkVI GTI has a front LSD - something the A3 doesn't have.

Granted, whether any of these will show up as options in the US, is questionable. My bet is that that at least the GTI's LSD will. And, if rumors are true that VW plans for a fairly high-end Scirocco, DCC may be standard.

VW EV, plug-in Hybrid, and/or 1.4-2.0 VVT&VVL T/dual-charged FSI engines for the US would be useful...

It looks a lot different from the GTI in real life IMO.

Why would the number of times you can click a button make any difference in how enjoyable it is to drive? Either you're going to like DSG, or not... I can't imagine there being much difference between a 5, 6, or 7 speed configuration.

Scirahcco - The latest version of the VW favorite that was manufactured from 1975 - 1989. Spelling was altered from the original to reflect the loss of "handling, feel and drivability" that occurs when any car gains ~1000lbs.

No, I don't actually have to drive the new model to state the above...comparing driving characteristics of a MkII Jetta to a MkV Jetta along with ~30 years of owning/driving nothing but VWs gives me enough credibility here.

Feel yes, but handling and driveability? I don't think so.

I bought a (new) '87 GTI 16V and I still wish I never sold it. But even if I still had it now, I would never drive it day to day. The ride would be too stiff and noisy, the gearchange too combersome, and the power delivery too peaky. What the newest VWs lack in feel they more than make up for in overall competence, performance and ease of use. Somethings a better left in the past, or at least for the weekends.

Theres that word again cannabilze...is there something wrong with the earths ability to produce different words in the future?....What?

While I'm not a big fan of the current rocco, this wouldn't be a bad idea! Keep it at about the same price as the current R32 and that would really be an excellent car. Offer it with a manually operated clutch and I'd be all over it. Not so much with the DSG.

Only in this country. The scirocco is about the same price as the gti in europe.
