Every time I see an mk2 wrecked I'm amazed how safe they are, even without bags. I had a friend wreck an 88 gti at 60 into a telephone pole. I thought he was going to die, but all that happen was he sprained his ankle,and had whip lash. It sucks to see a mint gti like above get totaled. Hope that guy is alright.

please don't give her any ideas like Crash
I have enough problems:-

replaced water pump after failure
replaced every coolant hose after failure
by passed heater core after failure
rebuilt Starting motor after failure
replaced Ignition switch after failure
replaced timing belt after failure
replaced Voltage regulator after failure'
replaced Alternator after voltage regulator failure

all those are examples of Financial heart ache

Recently, I have been loosing skin while replacing some of these parts {ok more my fault than the Gti's} but today, the Rear hatch fell on my wrist & almost broke it {my wrist}

Hmm, 20 year old car needs some work. Most likely alot of those parts you replaced were original to the car, give or take 10 years. Don't blame the car, blame the POs. Sounds like you've turned it into something reliable now.

Almost everything is either corosion repair/ prevention and unbreaking the fixes and neglect of PO's.

When dealing with a neglected "fixed" Mk II, best thing is to do everything related at once. Don't just replace the t belt, do the tensioner, seals ets while you're in there and do the v-belts on the way out. Accept the fact that on a 20 year old car, replacing a wheel cylinder can mean flex lines and hard lines back to the master. Do it right and completely and you can let it ride for anther decade for the most part.

It doesn't take long to get a 8v into a very reliable car, and then you can start adding in your own tweaks to be fixing, adjusting and refixing and refitting.

If it's their favorite grain, let them feast, but be courteous and try to not let them see you laughing.

Then again, a day is too long not to have fun and a life is to short to waste a day.
