**OFFICIAL** Pt. Reyes Old school GTG #4« »

Since no one has started a thread yet I thought i would. Im borrowing the main post info from last year since it all worked so well. If any Adjustments should be made let me know via pm please. Im doing quick updates to this thread and will have 08 links up asap.

here is a link to my crappy video from last year for those of you who didn't see it or want to download it or whatever,
Point Reyes 08 VIDEO
IF ANYONE HAS VIDEO FROM LAST YEAR PLEASE PM ME A LINK. I CANNOT FIND ANY VIDEO ON VORTEX.
and here is two links to picture threads from last year
Point Reyes GTG 08
Point Reyes GTG 08

Location: POINT REYES, point reyes website
Date: March 7, 2009
Time: 1pm

for right now were going to schedule to have the meet at drakes beach as usual, but if we are planning on having as many cars, or more than last year, im probably going to change parking lots so we aren't asked to leave! I will keep everyone posted as far as that goes... so for a rough estimate on the exact location, here is all the info

Address(for quick reference)
1 Drakes Beach Rd.
Inverness, ca
The route from the park'n'ride to the pt. reyes

At drakes beach there is PLENTY of parking, last year we had 120+ cars and a descent amount of parking lot left. theres beach access, a little cafe, and a bbq area with tables, and very sanitary grills!!!
Im not sure where people are going to set up meeting spots? but Here is last years meeting spots, maybe we can use this one again!
--Lucas Valley Rd exit off of 101N has a park and ride that will be the designated meet spot (if this is full due to weekenders you will be directed just down the street to another lot)
from the north, its just a bit before the golden gate and richmond bridges. from the south its just after the golden gate and richmond bridges. from the east, you will take the richmond bridge to 101N and its not much farther from there. last year alot of people went there and left around 12ish i believe..
this cruise from the park and ride to the beach is about 30-45 min or so through fun winding roads and one or two very small towns.
we will all park along the outside of the parking lot, once at the beach. you will see the AM group I.E. myself and a couple other people that arrived early to set things up and hog up as many initial parking spaces as we can....
after the meet, im sure alot of us will be going in the same directions and will cruise together back, making for more rolling shots and stuff for my video.
if you have any questions, feel free to ask! if you have any coments be sure to post them please try to assemble group trips up, down and over! it was all around a blast last year!
i dont know if i forgot to add anything... if i remember more, ill post it. this initial post will keep changing. please IM me if you plan on going so I can add your name, and car to the list!

MEET/CARAVAN LOCATIONS AND TIMES
this is the info from last year, and will probably work just as well for this year, but i can change it up for ease of convenience for people if something was confusing, or needs to be updated from last year!
It would also be good, if everyone could bring a motorola type radio for Comm.

PARK N' RIDE OFF 101
park n' ride the arrow is at the first intersection off the freeway, the park n' ride entrance is the first right off the freeway, you can see the parkinglot to the left of the arrow! Leaving the park n'ride NO LATER than 12:15, estimated arival at the beach at around 1.
caravans should try to plan on ariving at the park n'ride at by 11:45-12:00. if you don't plan on going to the park n'ride first, plan on arriving at the beach at 1.

Cencal/580 caravan
- start in Fresno.....8:00am
- Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto......9:00am, anybody thats meeting up with Randal Graves in Modesto heres a map of what part of the mall, in between Johnny Carinos and Chili's map to modesto meet spot

AND FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE A LONG DRIVE HOME
Ok I found a California State Park http://www.parks.ca.gov/lat_lo...d=106 that isnt to far off the road we are taking to get to Point Reyes. They have two group campsites one will accomodate 50 and the other 25. If i get enough people interested I will reserve one.

Map at bottom http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/...f.pdf

The group sites prices are anywhere from $100 to $400 or more. Im willing to cover it as long as its not $1000. All I ask is you give $15-20 if your camping with us. So let me know if your going to be camping with us as well. I need a accurate car and person count. If we do get enough people interested we will be leaving Point Reyes around 4:30 and getting to the campground around 5-5:30

Again if any info needs to be changed or updated please pm me. Also if you are planning on going please pm me also with what car you will be bringing. I will keep a list updated as best i can. I will be adding pics and links as i find the from last year.

Heres some pics from last year.

CHERRY!!!!! I so wanted to just run up and hug her. But I didnt want to scratch the paint. Even though the owners husband said it was scratched up anyways.

In the spirit of what Jon would say, until he says it, this is kinda like an Old Skool show. I'm just waiting for him to post. I saw one of his last posts was yesterday on WCM. I'm sure if someone linked him to this he'd chime in on his plans for this year's meet.

Yes, we the old school crowd would appreciate everyone to bring out their older dubs, but the whole point is appreciation of old dubs. I understand that there are people that love older dubs but for instance can't find a nice example of one in their price range, so they have mk3+... All I personally ask is that the mk3+ cars don't park in between the older models.

Hell, I love me some mk3's etc but I just like the continuity of older dubs.

I do agree this is an old school meet but newer vws should be allowed. Maybe this year we should have the 92 and older park on the outside and the 93 and newer park on the inside.

I hope jon doesnt mind me taking this over. but he did start planning and made a thread middle of December for last years. If he wants to take it back im ok with it.

Next year if i have to i will trailer my mk1 down there in whatever condition it is in. Gutted or not its going down next year.

All VWs are invited. Just this meet is geared more towards 92 and earlier. So therefore 93 and newer park on the inside of the parking lot and 92 and older park on the outer area. This however doesnt apply to corrados. they park where ever the hell they feel like it like the last few years.

much thanks for starting the thread for this year! ive been hella busy the past few months and have been procrastinating on starting it!
to answer the whole old school new school thing....
its an "old school gtg" but that doesn't mean you cant come out to show support/appreciation in a new school dub! we just try to sepparate the parking to keep all the oldschools together and on display! if you have an old school dub you should try to bring it out, but if you cant.... your still welcome to come out and chill and ****! I hope this will answer any other questions on that one?
I was also thinking about going to one beach lot past the normal one? just to try to eliminate the cluster of site seers and tourist traffic. just an idea??

From what i could tell from the NPS map the one we have been going to is the only one that is vehicle accessible. I will look again.

I am planing on making it out this year again. not sure what car i will be in. hopefully I will have the family with me like last year. this meet needs to start way earlier, driving home in the dark on unfamiliar roads that are hours from any tow service is just unwise in a old school car. yea i know most of you are driving from far away, and would have to wake up earlier then your used too. OK i am done venting. We will be there around 11 with a big-ol picnic basket full of yummies.

Last year

Will bring a board too (another reason for getting there earily)

humm what car to drive

the wagon in all its stock glory

or the 4door scraping all the way there again

i know im not the only person that works saturday. why not move it to sunday? lighter traffic and the park will probably also be a little less crowded on sundays as well.

Actually.. rumor has it that Gurney has fathered some 'illegitimate' children.. Bill Brasky is one of them.. Chuck Norris is another.. and The Stig has never shown his face due to the uncanny resemblance he holds to Dan Gurney..

if the venue moves closer to the center of the bay, you're more likely to get cars like this out there instead of mk3's.

If your old school car breaks down in the boonies on sat night you can get it towed home and fix it. Most of us who work on mondays would have to be late or take day off, if it broke down on sunday night

I drove all the way to bonelli on saturday and came back up on sunday with my old school car.

If it breaks down, fix it and go home.
