FireVortex for Google Chrome (Webkit) - maybe Safari on GreaseKit?« »

Google Chrome Dev Channel supports userscripts - working on an older version of firevortex for chrome right now.

- 2/1/2009

Modified by rich! at 10:02 PM 2-1-2010

****EDIT****

Still no way to save data via the GM_setvalue GM_getvalue - unfortunately that is a roadblock here as I do not wish to spend time recreating the functionality. I'll have to wait until Google Chrome updates the dev channel to support the missing APIs.

Ok... Just uploaded the user script. Good luck and please be sure to follow the instructions outlined above.

I will try and publish a few updates over the next few weeks to finish off the rest of the features. Please keep tabs on this thread as you'll need to manually download and install the user script.

Re: FireVortex for Google Chrome & Safari (GreaseKit) - User Script - [beta] (rich!) »« »

This also works in Safari. Here's how to install:

1. First, download and install SIMBL: http://www.culater.net/software/SIMBL/SIMBL.php

2. Next, download and install GreaseKit: http://8-p.info/greasekit/

3. If you open Safari, you should now have a "GreaseKit" menu.

4. Click here: FireVortex Chrome User Script When the script finishes loading, you will be prompted to install the script. Click "Install". That's it!

I just installed it on Safari 4, and it seems to be working great..
I don't use Firefox, and have never used Firevortex before, so I'm not sure exactly what it is supposed to do, but it has changed and added some things.. I like it..

I just found out sending an IM doesn't work for me.. The little IM window opens up, and I can type what I want, but the "SEND" button does nothing.. I don't send many IM's so it's not that big a deal...

awesome rich, thanks for finally (zing) doing this

I actually was going down this path a while ago, had a decent little user script going but I became frustrated with the languished state of GreaseKit. If you need any development help or testing, don't hesitate to ask.

I followed the instructions but still managed to screw something up, I'm not seeing anything when I come to Vortex in Chrome.

I think I may have added the switch wrong? I just tacked it onto the end of the Target field in my Chrome shortcut.

I'm an avid firevortex user but firefox 3.5 is giving me crap and stops loading pages every 10 minutes even in safemode. My GF's runs firefox on her Imac too on the same wireless connection and has no issues. I've tried everything to fix the issue. The only results I've gotten is making firefox a hell of a lot faster by disabling IPV6

Firevortex on Safari 4.0.2 isn't working for me. Sad sad world...

Seems to be sort of working for me with Safari 4.0.2.. It sometimes displays things wrong, and I can't just send a PM.. I can reply to them, but if I just open a PM window, the "Send" button doesn't work.. I am hoping for an update, soon...

Yeah the things I miss the most is the "My watched topics" link up top, the quick reply box at the bottom and the multi-quote button

i need to investigate why i can't get greasemonkey scripts to work under google chrome - this is holding me back to update the webkit version (i don't have a mac - so this is the only way for me). i'll block some time tomorrow and see what i can do.

Bump for any updates. My FF has been really buggy lately so I've been using Safari more now that Xmarks and AdBlock work.

Sorry guys, Safari stuff will be as-is... I can't support it since I don't own a mac and I'm not aware of any "greasekit" for windows/safari combo (correct me if i'm wrong please).

On the google front, great news though
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009...sions/

Extensions stuff is turned on for the dev channel now. After reading the docs:
http://code.google.com/chrome/....html

Looks like the basic stuff I need is there (sans preferences storage - but i believe html5 will work) this includes autoupdates, user/content scripts, xmlhttprequest (cross domain), toolbar.

So the goal for now is to work on an extension on Chrome. I already start on a basic shell extensions to see how it works but I have a ways to go - especially on "options/preferences".

If you have any alpha versions of the script I'd love to test. Im running on a netbook using chrome, which runs faster than firefox, and what Im really missing from my desktop install is the firevortex stuff.

Mostly I just want a watched topics link at the top, my name highlighted in lists of threads and a quick reply box haha.

If you have anything needing testing on a small laptop I can help.

while i havnt completely converted to chrome yet, 3.5.3 is the devil right now so chrome is my only option. its great to hear a firevortex will be coming for it (while the name kind of looses its meaning ). this may be the convincing factor

This makes me a sad panda. FF has been a complete pos since the last few patches. The only reason I hadn't switched away from FF fully is solely because of Firevortex. It's like I can't browse the tex without it.

Rich, have you looked into your options with Safari for Windows?
