Shell Nitrogen Gasoline??? | « » 5:54 PM 3-9-2009 | |

So Shell gasoline has introduced some new Nitrogen gas blend in all their gas blends, what is the point of this? Will it do anything that can potentially harm the engine? the turbo? I figure it's nothing more than advertising nonsense - N2 is inert. Discuss...

I'm not sure what compound they are claiming to have added into the gasoline, but it's obviously not N2, as that would be a gas and would not dissolve in gasoline in the first place. So your assumption that nitrogen is "inert" is only true in its elemental form, which isn't soluble in gasoline in the first place. Perhaps it's some some of oxide of nitrogen, however, NOx emissions are something we're trying to get rid of, so I have no idea what it is. I'd have to read up more about it.

The "Nitrogen Enriched" ( ) refers to the detergents, not gasoline itself. Basically they claim it cleans better. I'm guessing your wallet will be spotless after a few tanks of it.

The introduction of Nitrogen in to their detergents is to protect against their premature breakdown in higher compression/higher heat engines that are utilizing the direct injection technology like we are using. Essentially, it provides more stability for their detergents to not disintegrate in these scenarios and thus to stick around longer to do their job as the nitrogen enriched molecules will inherently burn slower.

Its not all marketing it actually has a purpose and is a good formula. V-Power use to be the only one that had a really good additive pack, and now this will be in their whole line up. FliGi7 is correct in what he said. Shell is also one of a few companies that had a good additive pack, and works in DI applications better then most other gas formulations.

The proof is in the (I'm sure tested at some point) theory that DI engines run much higher compression ratios and thus hotter combustion, thus disintegrating a good amount of whatever detergents were added. Therefore, something that can attach to the detergent molecules that prolongs the burn/combustion will buy the detergent molecules more time to do their job. As for independent testing, I'd like to see it for myself, but it does make absolute sense in theory.

the place I use for oil analysis has continually tests the Shell gasoline. Prior to the whole nitrogen enriched claims, he still recommended shell as the best gas you can use (which validates the Shell advertisements). Eventually he'll do the independent testing for the new additive package.Though he really hasn't tested BP with invigorate much--- the nitrogen-enhanced marketing may be in direct response to Invigorate, which claims even more additives than Top Tier

He recommended Shell V-Power to me since i started using him when I got my GTI. It has been claimed by him and backed with research and documentation that it is one of the best formulations for a DI application. Use it if you like or do not use it. Yes they can make the marketing all fancy looking and what not but sometimes there is some truth ot marketing and its not all false. In this case, I am waiting to see what the results are from the test...

It does make sense in theory and I would like to see some independent tests also... If you were to see the carbon build we have in all our engines across the board at my work(cadillac) you would be amazed.. We had an independent company come in and show us multiple fuels and the additives they use and to see the crap we run through our engines is amazing, surprised they run for so long. There are countless bulletins from GM on fuel quality and the negative effects they can have on engines and fuel system. It would be great if this gas from shell does what it says it does.. Would solve alot of engine/fuel system issues we have.

Screw detergents. Cars should just come from the factory equipped with a water/meth or nitrous setup. Engine cleaning solved. It should be included in the stimulus or something.

EPA requires it in all gas, Shell puts 5x more in their V-Plus. It burns longer, therefore stays around longer to clean.http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-1....html

out of all the diff gasoline brands ive tried.which is basically all of them.shell's vpower has given me the best mileage hands down. significantly better too. not sure if that says anything about v power and how it works, but i dont use any other type of gas besides vpower
