Bumps rattles etc | « » 9:30 AM 3-16-2009 | |

Hey guys/gals... I'm nearing my final decision.... I drove the Q5 and loved it but I think it is more than I want to spend and a bit more of everything than I need... Tiggy is perfect for what I need... How has fit/finish been for you all? Any rattles inside that are troublesome etc? I am leaving an audi that within 2 years has no rattles/bumps, surprising, but none... I'm just hoping tiggy is a solid unit that wont be a rattle bucket after a few months... Thank you in advance!! Looking at an SEL, with 4motion, and sunroof... No nav..

I doubt in Texas you will have a problem because of the warmer climate.Sometimes when it gets really frigid here I can hear the sunroof creak a little as there's tension on the chassis as it goes over bumps. The only somewhat isolated issue that I'm having is a whistling wind noise caused by the side view mirror when doing high speeds. A few people are having this issue, some do not, and some don't have good hearing

It does get cold here in Dallas, but the truth is that it is the horrible roads that are the issue

Just got back from a Houston to San Antonio, San Antonio to Temple, and Temple back to Houston trip (about 700 miles), and the only noise I heard was my spousal unit yelling 'Slow Down, the speed limit isn't 80 mph!'. I absolutely love the Tiguan. It is comfortable, quiet, quick, agile, plenty of pep, and decent mpg to boot. Wish I could say the same for my 1 ton diesel truck. that's my .02 cents worth TXTiguan

No bumps, rattles, wind noise, etc for me. I paid 27k for my Tiguan SE..........but it feels and drives like I spent 60k+ I'm amazed at how well the vehicle is built. It is tight and solid!

I have been on quite a few trails here in Missouri mostly out of sheer boredom and have yet to come up with a rattle.

I've had my Tig for 2 months now and I can say that rattles are my only complaint. My Tiguan had about 5 annoying rattles when I bought it and I was able to isolate and silence 3 of them, but I still have 2 that are quite annoying. I sold a 10 year old BMW that was completely rattle free and It's rather disappointing to buy a $30K+ brand new car with this problem. Other than the rattle, I really do like the Tiggy and still think it was a worthwhile purchase. I'm also hoping that when the weather warms up here in Washington State that the rattles will quiet down a little, so we'll see...Brandon

I have none, mine is 100% rattle free, and I've had it for a few cold months.

5 months of ownership through a miserable winter and horrible roads. Tiguan is as tight and rattle-free as can be (but I didn't order the sunroof that many are complaining about).

The 2 big ones were in the center console and in the passenger rear.I have the nav system and there is a pocket in the center console to put your iPod and it rattled like crazy. It turns out there is a black rubbery sleeve in there that you can pop a couple of "snaps" out of the sides and then pull the sleeve straight up and out. I then found a couple of cables running under the center console that were vibrating against the console housing. I put some packing foam in between the two and put the sleeve back and all is quiet. For the passenger rear, i removed the little storage door and reached up and in between the trunk liner and fender and found a computer up in there with a large wiring harness running out of it that was also rattling. Again, I put a little packing foam in between the cable and sheet metal and quieted it right down. I still have a small rattle that sounds like it's coming from the spare tire well and I tried removing the spare and the plastic storage bin that surrounds the spare, but that didn't help. I'm suspicious that it might be coming from inside the rear hatch and I may start pulling trim pieces soon to chase that one down. I also have an intermittent rattle coming from the passenger A pillar somewhere, but I haven't been able to figure that one out yet. I'm jealous of those of you who don't have the rattles - I've had air-cooled VW's that didn't rattle this bad! Brandon

Sorry to resurrect an older thread, I was wondering if you found out what was causing your pillar rattle tiguanr? After a month of driving on our wonderful (not) roads there is a terrible rattle coming from the left front pillar (sounds like something loose inside it). It's such a hassle for me to take it back to the dealer (it's been back 3 times already for other minor issues), I was going to try fix it myself. Apart from this, the car is rattle free, but I've only done 1100 miles, I hope it's not like my 2004 Golf, that beast was rattle city!
